Richards to 3C?

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ho...sEnabled=false

Quote:
“I didn’t play much in Tampa with (Richards), but I know what kind of player he is, and we’ve played in different situations,” Fedotenko said. “So I feel like I definitely can read and react and take advantage, knowing where he is. I’m excited. I’m excited to get an opportunity to play with him and create a lot of offense.”

I have to admit Torts is doing some coaching here.

Richards & Feds did play on the same line for at least a portion of one season.

Richards isn't the 3C if he gets 18-20 minutes, which he will. Linemates don't determine your standing on the depth chart, ice time does.

Richards's best contribution so far has been the power play, easily.

I can't say I'm the biggest supporter of Boyle as 2nd line pivot, though.

Not sure that with Torts you can really identify any line as being the 1st, 2nd or 3rd line.

If the Double A - Stepan - Gabby line is going, they get run.

If the Dubi - Boyle - Callahan line is going, they will get run

If Avery - Richards - Feds line gets going, they will get run.

While not a big believer in Boyle, I'm going to be interested in seeing how that trio makes out tonight. Not a playmaker amongst them, so there's going to be alot of net crashing going on there.

Should be a fun game.

Agreed and further, it's not like they won't get shuffled around if they're not playing well, so it's really all a moot point.

If they play well, it's 2a or 2b line. If they don't play well, it ends up in the Torts line combo graveyard after a period and a half.

Boyle-Dubinsky-Callahan is a typical third line. But the way Torts plays the second, third and fourth lines, it's a 2a or 2b line right along with the Richards line. And it all depends on which line is playing well that game.

It's just another bit of tinkering that can be defunct after 20 minutes. Nothing different than what happens nearly every game at some point.

I don't expect the 4th line to see much time at all with that setup, especially with such a break in the schedule.

My thoughts exactly, no way Boyle has more TOI then Richards. Unless we somehow play half the game short handed, which is not out of the realm of possibility.

I like it. I don't see it as a demotion, it looks like more of an effort to get the most out of everybody. All three lines look workable on paper though - let's see how it plays out on the ice.

Our Powerplay has looked ridiculously good this year. Even when they haven't scored they are commanding the puck. You can really see how a real QB back there makes such a key difference.... and of course it leads to confidence.

I just hope this means a Zuccarello call up.

Anisimov - Stephan - Gaborik
Zuccarello - Dubi - Cally
Feds - Richards - Avery
x - Boyle - Prust

4 balanced and good lines, on paper.

i think there are 2 ways to go with this team.

1A (some combination of Stepan, AA, Dubi, Richards, Cally, and Gabby)
1B (Same as above)
3 (Feds, Boyle and Prust)
4 (Leftovers)

1A (AA-Step-Gabby)
2A (Dubi - Boyle - Cally)
2B (Avery, Richards, Fedotenko)
4 (Leftovers)

You weaken 1 line to strengthen another. The question is, which approach is better, a #1 and 2 #2's or 2 #1's and a #3?

Personally I believe in going with 2 #1's and a #3...but thats just me.

Richards will have more TOI, but less ES time than boyle. Unless, obviously, Torts will return to old lines with BR between Dubi and Cali. When elite NHL player struggles, it is not that he cannot play well, he cannot play well when is being payed extra attention he deserves. That is why Torts moves him out of top 6.

Torts used to throw Avery on the top line with Gaborik too sometimes. He'd have his best game of the season and the next game he'd be back on the fourth line.

I'd want to go with

Anisimov-Stepan-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Boyle-Callahan
Avery-Richards-Zuccarello
Fedotenko-Christensen-Prust

maybe let Prust rest up his injury and put Deveuax in instead

For one game? Fine. Over a period of time? Hell no. Richards with 3rd line players has to be a stop gap whatever you call the line. If he's not on the first he has to be on the second. Dubinsky can take a hike back to the third line with Boyle and Feds when Wolskis back.

That gives us Wolski-Richards-Callahan which looks a pretty exciting compilation that we haven't seen yet. If Wolski can't make it work, you try Dubinsky again or give MZA a shot.

thats pretty much a flat out lie.

As soon as a line starts becoming ineffective Torts breaks em up. and when its going well together for a long period of time, hes more apt to give them more time than if it was a 1 period wonder.

i mean seriously, not a single person on this board ever though of doing AA-Stepan-Gabby and right now that line has pretty much carried us through most of this winning streak.

Is it true he's dating Olivia Munn? If so Torts deserves a Jack Adams if she turns up in a ditch in Jersey.

Guarantee you Boyle gets demoted by the 2nd period and Richie plays with Dubi and Cally.

No! We signed Richards to a freaking 9 year contract, so he always must be with Gaborik!

does boyle have blackmail materials on torts, i mean i know richards hasnt lit the world up at even strength....but boyle has? hes played like a glorified 4th liner for most of the year, he gets a point at the end of the carolina game so that means he gets to play with dubi and cally (both of whom did most of the work on their goals). i know torts will shuffle it up when boyle gets pushed off the puck like hes had done all season. the richards line will have good chances tonight and he will shuffle boyle into averys spot.
