5 round fights and 8 round title fights?

I think main card fights should be upped to five 5 min rounds and title fights should go to 8 five min rounds. Would make it more exciting.

discuss.

Absolutely not.

Keep it the way it is. All main events and title fights: five rounds. All other fights: three rounds.

That's insane.

I do BJJ and just rolling for 10 minutes at a time will leave you pretty gassed.

8 five minute rounds would be insanity at the level those guys are at. Even some premier fighters show being gassed in the 3rd round or so.

5 round fights will just water them down. There's no way most guys can fight at any sort of "exciting" pace for that long.

All win this fight and you get a title shot fights and main events should be five rounders. Everything else? NO.

I would be intrigued by 5 rounds with 7 round title fights. Or, just all 5 round fights at the UFC level. Down to 8 fights per card, and trim the roster by 25%.

The more rounds you add on, the more fighters will conserve their energy, which leads to boring fights. Its just fine the way it is.

There are so many fights that just seem to be getting going when the 3rd round is winding down. Fitch/Penn, Machida/Rampage and Rashad/Rampage are 3 off the top of my head that were all "meh" fights that could've developed into something great if they had more time.

Also, energy shouldn't be a huge issue. Once guys start training for 25 minutes instead of 15 consistently they'll get used to it.

That's true. But now all three of those fights would be five rounders, as they were main events. Sometimes three round fights leave me wanting, but I think some steps are going to be taken in the future to keep fights like Guida/Bendo from being only three rounds.

Those would be the sloppiest championship rounds ever.

Energy is an issue now with 3 round fights often. Especially with some of the heavyweight fights. There's nothing worse than seeing two out of shape guys throwing 1/2 speed punches for the final 10 minutes of a fight because they are both just so exhausted that it's all they can do.

I don't think I could deal with seeing that sort of fight for 5 rounds.

I was tossing around the idea in my head that for scoring purposing each 2:30 should be scored as its own round. So regular matches would be 60 points and title matches 100 points

Oh man, can you imagine that Ben Rothwell/Mark Hunt fight going 5 rounds? *Shudder*

They would have died in the octagon.

That's when one of them needs to agree to tap out and they can split the win bonus.
