They might trade Komi...But not to Montreal, and not for Gomez.
but it buys us an extra ~3.5 mil next year. so all in all not a bad deal for us

I'm not sure what you've tried to accomplish, but I wouldn't touch it unless komi was going to the minors, I doubt that's what PG would have in mind, so it's a no thank you from me.

1) We get rid of Gomez cap hit next year and the year after while only having Komisarek's on a team that is depleted on D and could use the type of D Komi is and was when he played for us.
2) Lombardi is currently better than Gomez and would be a better fill in if Desharnais, Eller or Plekanec get hurt.
3) Lombardi is UFA at the end of this season.
We lose a player at one position and gain a better player at that position while simultaneously taking on an overpaid player who has the same term as Gomez but with far less cap hit and actually addresses an organizational need.
How in the **** does this deal "not help"? You make it sound as if we have one of the top defensive units in the NHL.
Seriously guys, if you had watch toronto games lately, Komo plays like he was before. Not just one game, but at least 2 weeks. Since he has been in Toronto, its the first time that he's actually healthy and I feel that he can fill a role in the top 4. Even if the trade was just Komo vs Gomer, i'll still do it in a heart beat.

And Fwiw I would take Komo back in a heart beat. I look at our defense and hes a type of player we are sorely missing. A big rugged guy that will clear the crease. Put him back with Markov and let them find their old chemistry.

That's what I mean though, I don't think this was ever said on the air. There are exactly two mentions of this on Twitter one hour after the OP said he heard it on the TSN990. Usually when a rumour is on the radio, listeners flood twitter with what they just heard.
