The trouble is that the "stuff" he chooses to bombard viewers with are esoteric, irrelevant historical trivia that don't enhance or aid the viewer in following the action - in fact, those human interest anecdotes he makes a living on forcing into his PxP calls actually are at the expense of describing the actions. He's the most overrated announcer in the NHL IMO - and his nasal-sounding voice is like fingernails on the blackboard.

Agreed on Olczyk and Reaugh assessments - Forslund is good when he's a neutral party rather than carrying a bias from his regular job with Carolina, which tainted the last game he called with the Sabres.

It's high time that Ruff put the pressure on Ehrhoff and start making him the focal point of the PP - that was a big reason for signing him and he needs to be put on the 1st unit. Let Roy or Pominville serve as the other point man feeding him passes instead of Gragnani or Myers.

Are those pairings official or just speculation? Those were what many of us forecast/hoped for in the preseason.

So with Grags out, who moves onto the PP unit he was on?

Why Ehrhoff is not on the first PP is baffling to me. With the chemistry the first PP has, if Hoff can get open and just bomb it, opens up some good opportunities.

I'm just speculating here, but maybe they go with:

Vanek, Pominville, Boyes, Roy, Ehrhoff

Leino, Adam, Stafford, Leopold, Sekera

with Myers getting a shift here and there? Perhaps Ruff would want to keep Leopold and Ehrhoff together even on the PP and either Sekera or Myers will be on the top unit? There's certainly a few possibilities that Ruff can choose from.

Anyway, saw someone mention your PP struggling; well you ain't seen nothin' yet. Watch the Devils PP, then do the exact opposite in every way and you should be golden.

Here's to a good, injury-free game

Lindy doesn't really like loading up one unit. He likes having decent players on both units and splitting the powerplay time down the middle between the two. Probably why Ehrhoff has been on the second unit.

Gerbe's also due. I was expecting more offense from him.

I'll say he or Boyes light it up tonight.

Mildly concerned with Roy being reunited with Vanek. I think they play their best hockey on separate lines. Then again, Roy has certainly earned the current #1 center spot for the time being.

I like Grags a lot. I just think Weber is more of what we need right now.

It was absolute lunacy IMO that Ruff didn't at least use Ehrhoff on the 4-on-3 PP the other night (instead of Gragnani) or more often on 5-on-3's - granted, his big shot has been defended against on most 5-on-4 power plays but with the added open ice and fewer defenders in those other PP situations, I would think Ehrhoff would be a no-brainer to use as the one guy at the point. How often did we see Ruff use Kotalik on 5-on-3's and 4-on-3's for just that reason, knowing the big bomb from the point was harder to cover?

Ehrhoff's overall play hasn't earned him any favors but it's time the Sabres focus on making it work - if they don't, it's going to be a long 10 years....

I think Ruff will bump Myers down to the 2nd unit - I can't see Sekera being more effective there.

With Adam cooling off a bit lately and Ruff alluding to him being less of a factor in recent games, I wonder how long til Ruff tries putting Gaustad on the 2nd unit - not only to improve their net presence (similar to what Vanek does on the 1st unit) but to help their possession time via face-offs. Leino, Adam and Stafford aren't nearly as safe a bet to win draws as having Roy and Pominville available on the 1st unit.

I agree.

Ehrhoff has not been able to use his shot on the PP but the Sabres don't really seem to look for it. They prefer the off the wall angle stuff. I think if the placed and emphasis on getting Hoff open to shoot, he could be very effective.

One thing though, he needs to be more accurate. So many of his shots miss really high. I would hate to see him catch Vanek in the face or something like that.

Sort of feel bad for him, stuck on the 4th line due to circumstance.

His big shot is only useful when he can get it through. Which doesn't happen that often.

Is it that hard to be physical? Look at Pittsburgh, they were known as a skill team 2 years ago, then when Crosby went down, they turn into a heart and hustle team. I want to see my boys hit players too!

Hear hear!
-Vanek has played his best hockey with Pommer (they're still together)
-Roy has played his best hockey with Vanek.
-Vanek has also played some great hockey with Roy
-Vanek/Roy/Pommer have never been a line before Monday.

Its simply not true that Vanek and Roy don't play well together or need to be apart to be at their best. They've also never been together with Pommer before. Its a line we have no history to draw from to evaluate their potential success or failure.

This will be the first time in awhile we've iced a top line with 3 players that are all top line caliber players.

I'd actually like to see Leino and Boyes switched.

But...it is what it is.

Preseason i really liked Leino ...now I've come to despise his game.

So I am forced into illegality - GCL blackout, no chance to see this game in Europe. Hoping for a stream then...
