the rangers haven't add any dmen that could be viewed as a replacement for staal that would lead any logical person, ie non-panicing ranger fan lol, to conclude that they don't expect him back.

they picked up woywitka who is waiver wire trash cause they thought he was slightly better than brendan bell. and then they signed stralman, who is terrible defensively but might help the pp and since we play mainly 4 dmen anyway you can minimize his negative impact...but we are still talking about #6 and 7 guys being picked up for depth.

when the rangers turn around and trade 2 top prospects and a 1st rounder for ryan suter to play on the top pair, then take it as a sign about staal

Sather saying that may be good news in that it's possible that there is some info, but they aren't sharing. Almost any info will be good now because otherwise, they would likely just call it a season for Staal.

With the way Girardi and McD are playing I almost forgot we are missing him.

That said, dont think Danny G is going to last an entire season playing almost 28 minutes a night..... So lets hope Staal is back at some point.

It will have to be an awfully negative report for them to pull the plug on the season in November. There's nothing for the Rangers to gain by giving daily medical bulletins on Staal. Until recently, Pittsburgh wasn't parsing out much information on Crosby. We'll all get plenty of notice when he is ready to go on a rehab assignment.

tell me about it. i've been having him ride pine on my fantasy team for a really long time now. Carolina fans say he is lazy (not putting full effort during games) but also just has slow starts. of course the real suck is Marc being out. I really thought he'd be making huge jumps in his game this season and get into the upper 30s in points and be like +20.

I never said replace staal, he is irreplacable, i just meant create some depth because they are seriously worried.

Still, if they were seriously worried about Staal in the long term they'd be going after guys that are much better players than the ones they've picked up. Having a bunch of 6th or 7th d men doesn't do anything to deal with losing a number 1.

i doubt they even look at him until the New Year. They'll probably do what Pitt have done with Crosby - plenty of practices, maybe several weeks, before even considering him playing a game.

To add to this, it helps Sather keep himself from being vulnerable. Say there is news and the news is that Staal will be out for the year. Don't you think teams will use that as leverage when Sather comes knocking for a defenseman. I think the organization is handling this well. And not even just on the transaction side of things, look at Crosby. He's constantly in the news with updates. There's been at times a date mentioned on when they think he's going to come back and then that date comes and he's still not ready. It's obviously not hurting the Penguins play but it certainly has to be discerning for the fans and his teammates.

While I hope they don't rush him back the Rangers really need someone who Torts can trust enough to play more than 10 minutes a night.. Stralman can skate but his game sense and everything else is atrocious..

Marc Staal has been given approval to begin light physical activity following his examination by concussion specialist Dr. Robert Cantu in Boston on Tuesday, an individual familiar with the case told The Post.

It remains unclear whether the Rangers’ alternate captain, who had been shut down completely for a month following a previous visit to Dr. Cantu during the week of Oct. 16, will be able to play this season.

One step.

Riding the stationary bike is light physical activity. Not talking about the crazy scouting combine bike test. Enough of a workout to build up some sweat.

Yeahp. At this point, he really needs to find out if he can handle doing a light workout such as the stationary bike before he increases his workout routine off the ice.

NYR practice today at 11. Staal met with Dr. Cantu on Tuesday. The Rangers were off yesterday. Wonder if they will provide an update. They stopped giving updates last month. Brooks wrote someone familiar with the case told him about Staal. The Rangers wouldn't confirm or deny his report. The Rangers won't give updates but someone tells Brooks who informs the public.

All of the signs pointed to Staal feeling better. Eric Staal said Marc was feeling good. John Giannone spoke to Eric Staal and he tweeted about what Eric told him.

Last night,Ray Ferraro was doing the Canes@Montreal game on TSN. He was discussing Eric with Gord Miller. Ferraro said Eric is full of it. How can he say what occurred with Marc is not hurting him? Eric would be concerned about Marc if another player hit him.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't clear him for anything if he hasn't been feeling good, and been symptom free for a long period of time. Heres to hoping her starts skating in about a month or so.

If the Rangers can keep playing the way they have as of late (minus all the penalties they take), the Rangers should keep him out until he is 120%. If that's not until Februaryy/March that's fine.

Certainly good news, but I'm disappointed that we're essentially back at ground zero. Staal was skating and working out 2 months ago.

This entire situation was just handled awfully.

I'm sure that to some degree the Rangers didn't understand exactly what was going on, just like us. After all, let's remember that he finished the season and playoffs playing over 23+ minutes a game, and showed no signs of illness.

Does anyone know if there are any theories about why NHL guys seem to miss so much more time with a concussion than NFL guys?

Cuz the NFL doesn't give a **** and sends guys back out there who are suffering from concussion symptoms but they just don't tell people or teams pressure them to get back into the lineup.

The NFL is horrible when it comes to concussions

A lot of football players die young. Not trying to be morbid but that is a point. Coaches make their guys run out there with concussions and "tough it out"

Another thing: Hockey is played at a much faster speed than football.
1. Skating is faster
2. Ice and boards are harder surfaces than grass
3. Football helmets are much better suited for head-on-head impact
