Let's put things into perspective

Fire Martin, Fire Gauthier, Cole sucks, Gomez sucks, PP is horrendous and coaches need to be fired because of it, our Defense sucks, Pearn fired etc..
We pretty much heard it all by now.

Our Habs still aren't escaping any sort of criticism. Most fans jump at any chance they get to spit out their criticisms.

We all know we had a rough start, but since our win versus Philly, we're 7-2-1. Yet, it still feels like we're doomed to fail if we listen to plenty of fans.

Things aren't so bleak. So cheer up, Habs land.

Very much needed Kriss, bang on.

Also I would like to add that there was little reason to complain in the first place IMO since the Habs were outplaying the opposing team in the majority of their losses.

I have a rule that I don't like to make conclusions until about the 20 games mark because there is just way too much volatility at the beginning of the season. The habs are now 3 points out of a division lead too.

Doesn't mean we can't criticize, but there is a difference between critiquing what you would like to see improved and acting like your dad just got shot.

You're right. Were 7-2-1 but it doesnt seem that way because every game the Habs play with a few exceptions it seems were hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Every game feels like a must win still until we get our healthy bodies back. Everything does seem to be getting better and i think a big improvement on the powerplay will go a long way for us

Its the curse of bad starting numbers. Everything looks worse than it is for a long period of time if you were unlucky right out of the gate. Have a bad stretch like they did in February and its a bump in the road, bad stretch to start and everyone is running around with their heads chopped off.

15 points in 10 games. I agree we can cheer up a little bit, especially when you consider injuries

Right, and almost every loss we've had during our bad stretch (because that's all it was really, a bad stretch, something most teams go through every season) seemed like we dominate them. Actually, it doesn't just seem like it, we outshot and outchanced the opponents in most of our losses. We've had two really bad games, in Pittsburgh and Calgary. We actually had more dominant victories than dominant defeats.
So again, things aren't so bleak.

They can sell their tickets for + ev if they are not entertained, there are alot more fans then the season ticket holders, and im sure you'll find buyers if most of them bail form further purchases.
Season is young, and alot of players to be excited about. i'm sure the city will explode if markov gets back AND we are winning hockey games.

Feel's good to be a fan tonight.

Before we all jump up or bow down ,as pointed out by Red Fisher tonight we've won 8 games lost 10 at this point in time.

However, as good as they were on Wednesday, they should understand they still face an uphill climb before they join the Eastern Conference race in earnest.

In other words, up there with teams such as Pittsburgh and Washington, as well as the surprising Rangers and Philadelphia. Furthermore, don’t forget Boston, which appears to have found its game.

I don't want to hear again this year how we nearly beat the cup champs in round 1 ....I guess that's where alot of us stand right now, we want to be the one going deep and all the way ,not the one saying "we we're close"...

And again tonight , Habs lay back in 3rd outshot 13-4.

Holding back with a 4-0 lead against a team that was playing as badly as the Canes isn't a mortal sin. Besides, it worked. The score remained 4-0. As for almost eliminating the Bruins, the Habs took 2 more games from them early in this season despite being in a slump.

Yes, the team isn't as bad as their record, but while being a good team, a great young forward, a PPG player, would of been the missing piece of the puzzle. That's why i think that one bad year could of done more good than bad to the habs.

I 100% agree with your post the HABS are far from being good enough yet this season. Also agree that losing to the Bs regardless of wether they won the cup it is still a loss.

now, back on topic...

What is it that we are putting into perspective?

Are the habs a contender now?

Or, is this thread just another way of saying ''we're not as crap as our start'' ....

Big revelations.

I'll bring out the pom poms when we start icing legitimate contenders.... until then, don't smack on the fans that want more.

Everyone but the elite teams get outshot when leading, and even the elite teams do to a degree.

Expecting a team dressing their #7, #8, #9, and #11 defensemen on the depth chart to play at the same level as Detroit during the mid-00s, Chicago since 08-09, etc. is asinine.

Not to mention, there's a game tomorrow and they need those points. And they had a FOUR goal lead. It made sense to rest people up.

I beleive we are the if not one of the lowest scoring teams in 3rd period goals in teh NHL I am trying to find it to post up. Lack of scoring in the thrid period will cost us games against the better teams and has already.

Not ideal, but not exactly dramatic either.

I don't think there's any reason to fight amongst ourselves here. Most pundits and dare i'd say knowledgeable Habs fans, knew going into the season that we were still a couple of pieces shy of a cup contender. The addition of Cole , along with a healthy Markov, Patches and Gorges was going to make us more of a safe bet for the playoffs, but not elevate us into the elite. After around 20 games, we're now firmly back into the playoff picture, and we haven't even seen Markov or had any semblance of a full squad yet. To me, this is pretty much exactly as i pictured it.

we're right on same pace as last year ,when we finished dead last with 56/ 3rd period goals...lowest in NHL tied with NJ Devils.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/teamstats.htm...=goalsByPeriod

In contrast Vancouver scored 100 3 rd period goals last year ....Boston 94

Power outage in 3rd periods ? It just proves Habs do sit back .

A good defense is a good offense??? , just not in period 3...
