Don't bring common sense into an HF argument regarding Habs management. It won't work the bashfest will just commence like clockwork

This guy looked good for a first NHL game. Mind you I'd like to see him against a better opposition that was pathetic last night what the Canes brought. I've never seen that team look like that.

Dig the stache too.

Is Emelin really listed at 6'2"? And Gorges 6'1"?

How else can such a statement be answered to? I mean we have massive injury problems at the moment and its painfully obvious Gauthier didn't intend to make a cup run with St-Denis or even the three of Diaz, Weber and Emelin in the lineup. All they need to do with the depleted defense is win some games. They did exactly this last night and stand a good chance against the Islanders.

Btw regular Habs -

Markov 6', Campoli 6', Emelin 6'2, Gorges 6'1, Gill 6'7, Spacek 6', Subban 6', Weber 5'11, Diaz 5'11

Only Weber and Diaz are below 6 foot (the magical threshold separating midgets from giants it seems)

Congrats to Freddy on getting his first NHL game in. The Habs now have 5 players on the team that were never drafted, St-Denis, Desharnais, Engqvist, Diaz and Darche.

Okay I'll admit it, Freddy looked good out there tonight and came as Natey advertised. Nice to see him looking good in his first NHL game. Hope he can be as good over the stretch of time that he is with the big club.

I thought he did fine, esp for his 1st ever NHL game.

I did have to laugh during the 1st intermission interview when he spoke about his penalty. Something like "I took the penalty and went to the box"

I was half expecting him to add "and then I feel shame"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_w4MV_LwMw

It was definitely the stache making think that

I find his performance ordinary. And I don't like his 2 penalties.

The guy will enjoy every minutes of his NHL stay, whatever the length. He knows it and we know it. m He will be back in the AHL pretty soon.

He was the best in Hamilton and deserved a call up. He is playing safe within his limits. That's fine.

On another note: WHEN WILL GAUTHIER RE-SIGN GORGES ?

He was covering for Weber who fell down, should he have just let the canes player walk in on Price?

As quick as we are to put someone on a pedestal, we are quick to throw them under a bus as well.

I'd rather he be ordinary on his first game than off.
Lets not expect miracles from him.

Seriously, that was the definition of a "good penalty".

The other one wasn't even much of an infraction either.

Why would Gorges sign now when he can keep showing his worth and raising his price on a depleted Habs defense?

Big time. I think thats what most people dont get in this forum. Two sides to a contract signing. I'm sure Gauthier would love to sign him now at a cheap deal. But more injuries and more games/minutes for Gorges.. means $$$$$ He will make big bucks this off-season.

Bruins 2011
Johnny Boychuk, Zdeno Chara, Andrew Ference, Shane Hnidy, Tomas Kaberle, , Adam McQuaid, Dennis Seidenberg

Hawks 2010

Pens 2009
Sergei Gonchar,Brooks Orpik,Kris Letang,Hal Gill,Philippe Boucher
Sorry - didn't realize the topic was: "with four regulars out is the Habs defence good enough to win the Cup.

You seem to be missing the entire point of my post...buddy said "smallest group of dmen ever"...I thought for about 3 seconds before thinking of a group of dmen smaller than the one buddy claims is the smallest in history. It was a pretty damn good defence corps that took Boston to the league finals BTW

Yes you are right that the group I listed had Ray Bourque on it, and yes he'\s better than all of our dmen, who all happen to be taller than him - did you notice his height? Shorter than every defenceman on last night's Hab squad. If that is not proof that height is a lot more irrelevant than many of you think, I don't know what is....

Who got sat the other night? 6-8 dman Tyler Myers...imagine! If that had happened in Montreal there would have been riots.

This obsession with height around here is frankly a joke.

Speaking of Weber falling, anyone else notice guys falling all over the place last night? Was there something wrong with the ice or something? Concert the night before or something maybe?

I would suspect the Trans-Siberian Orchestra considering the time of year.

Really was impressed with his quiet, but solid overall game. Nothing really stood out for gross errors or anything, he makes the smart plays. I don't have a problem with him, from the limited action I've seen him in I've been pretty impressed.

Yes, check out for yourself (without using hockeydb, since they are often wrong about size/weight data)

One more reason to hate them. Jeez (So sick of hearing their songs non-stop due to them making shows in Quebec and Montreal)

Nice quiet game by St-Denis. Played as well as Gill would have.

I'd take an inch off both... or maybe they just started shrinking once they hit 25.

I think they do some kind of hip hop music, but I'm not 100% sure. But yeah, they are a band.

On topic, St-Denis has been very good since his call-up. I expected him to play decently, but he's exceeded my expectations and I have no worries seeing him on the ice for 15-minutes a night.
