Organizational strength of this team: defense?

Consider the following

our opening day roster by all accounts should have been

Markov-Gorges
Gill-Subban
Spacek-Campoli

it's now gone to

Subban-Gorges
Weber-Emelin
St.Denis-Diaz

Even examining the prospects it continues

Brendan Nash
Jarred Tinordi
Darren Dietz
Nathan Bealieu
Morgan Ellis
Mac Bennett

(P.S. Should be noted most of our D prospects are starting to be >6ft)

This is a team built for the protection of Carey Price

Our prospect pool no longer looks too shabby either

Brendan Gallagher
Danny Kristo
Louis Leblanc

Are all forwards who could realistically have an impact on this roster

You are forgetting big Greg Pateryn who's having a big year at Michigan and should be in Hmailton next year.

And Michael Bournival. Why does everyone forget this player? He's gonna open some eyes at the junior champs this Xmas.

You forgot Mark Mitera, 6'3'' 215lb former 1st rd draft pick, stay at home type.
Also, Joe Stejskal over 6'2'' and 200+lbs (gritty PMD with a good shot);

And,
The poster who mentioned Greg Pateryn is bang on as well

Add Joe Callahan to that mix too.

If Markov had been healthy Campoli would never have been signed and even then, I would have sooner worked Emelin into the lineup.

I agree that our prospect lineup is deep. You could add a couple of guys to that list who are longshots... but sometimes longshots work out.

Greg Pateryn
Joe Stejskal
Magnus Nygren
Josiah Didier
Colin Sullivan

I would note that from our forward prospect pool, we have a good prospects (guys like Leblanc, Kristo, Bournival etc.) but we don't have a blue-chip offensive talent.

I like our defense depth. Even if we cant keep them all, they are valuable assets.

LeBlanc Kristo and gallagher have a chance to be top 6 NHLers.

To be honest, I think this team's strength is overall depth, sided with a World Class goalie. It's not in either category, it's the fact that we keep on being able to have a piece, even when players go down hard.

Defence, I agree is definately strong though

But if you consider:

Center: Pleks, Gomez, DD, Eller, Nokelainen
Top 6 wingers: Camm, Cole, Kosty, Patches, Gio
Bottom 6 wingers: Moen, White, Darche (when he's playing well),

Some forward callups: Engqvist, Pulashaj, Blunden

Then you have the d...

Markov, Gorges, Subban, Spacek, Weber, Gill, Emelin, Diaz, Campoli,

and some callups: St. Denis, Nash, Henry, Fitzgerald...

Every position is covered a few different ways. Lots more lego pieces than the favourites, who invest bigger money on few players (right now).

I wouldnt go as far as to say we have overall depth, but we are ok for the time being. Most people have gone on about how good Weber has been. I find that Diaz has been the better player. He is a much more intelligent guy, who does not even need to have size to play well since he has good positioning.

Anyone see the coincidence of Emelin playing better once Markov began skating with the team? Showing X's and O's is useful to demonstrate the defensive game plan. However, visualizing X's and O's while having a competent Russian rearguard explaining it further is a huge boost.

The team has been drafting alot of good defensemen in the last few years.. Habs are pulling a Preds..

The future is really bright with Subban Emelin Beaulieu Diaz Weber Bennett Tinordi Dietz Ellis.. Price will be well surrounded in the future..

True. We had Patch in that pool, but he is no longer counted in that pool...

Our strength is Trevor Timmins ability to draft crazy amounts of NHL caliber players. Even with injuries, we see time and time again the organization has the depth to produce NHLers to fill those shoes almost at will.

No real names to wow you with aside from a few of course, but overall, I have more faith in Trevor Timmins than anyone else in the organization AINEC.

Habs had an arrangement with Campoli around early July, they even stated that Campoli's signing had nothing to do with Markov.

I agree oyz, it falls in line with our belief that the habs needed a steady dman to offset the loss of Hamrlik, Campoli is no hammer, but would of helped whether Markov was injured or not.

And if we were on a long loosing streak you would have changed strength to weakness in your thread title?
