I think the only real deficiency we have is our PP (last night's game non-withstanding). I'd like to add a PP guy in to the equation here.

While I'd like to add a physical two-way defender, you look at a guy like Visnovsky with Anaheim and if we could get him for a reasonable price, I'd be all over it if I was Bowman. He's signed the rest of this year and next for 5.6M and a top 5 PP QB in the game. Put him on a team like the Hawks and he'll blow up with points.

Exactly. Nor profit from non-Hawks/non-Bulls events at the UC.

I don't think we need, or even want, to add anybody. I'd rather keep the system stocked, maybe trade prospects for picks to keep it strong down the line.

Yea, the Hawks basically just have money moving from one hand to the other.

Also, that article in the Trib that claimed the Hawks were losing money was one of the most disgusting pieces of self-serving "journalism" that I've ever seen. If that's what passes for news these days, they might as well just staple 50 corporate press releases together and call it a day.

The most disgusting part of all was Rocky Wirtz commenting on it. He should know to keep his mouth shut and his wallet open when it comes to the Hawks finances. Maybe half the fanbase was born yesterday but not the half that has followed this franchise all of their lives.

When you are this close you have to make a move to try to win it. It didn't work out fully, but Vancouver added some really valuable pieces down the stretch last year that helped them almost win the Cup. You don't have to mortgage the entire system, but if you can get a rental player for a prospect you need to make that move. As we've discussed ad nauseum, the core of this team is very young and locked up long term. You can give up prospects here or there to take a run at the Cup.

anytime a sports franchise cries poor, people should be skeptical. Unless of course it's located in florida, in which case there's a good chance they are leaking money.

As long as Toews, Kane and Sharp are here, that's 3 of the top 6 locked in. Hossa could move to the third line at some point but it doesn't look like that's going to happen soon. There just aren't enough spots for all of these forward prospects.

We have a ways to go before the trade deadline and I'm sure some weaknesses are bound to show up until then, but for now I'm content to stand pat.

Although, I wouldn't mind adding another top 6 winger for depth purposes. I like the way Stalberg and Carcillo are playing on their respective lines, but I wouldn't object to an upgrade over either. That makes the whole team stronger and gives Q much more flexibility with switching up lines.

Oh, and as for my answer to the title-question: two chicks at the same time.

So Hawk's fans are content with having Brunette, Carcillo, and Stalberg on our top 6? If this team needs anything, its a top 6 winger.

I know it's just Eklund, but his blog today says that the Hawks should have an eye kept on them today. He says they may be in talks with the Islanders.

Who would the Hawks possibly be targeting from the Isles? Okposo, maybe?

For now I am, as its working. But come trade-deadline, sure we could upgrade there as a possibility. But I don't think its a pressing weakness that needs addressed right now.

Maybe they want Marty Reasoner THIS time?

It's a team sport in the end and new bodies can end up hurting more than they help. Kaberle didn't help Boston one bit last year, probably hurt them. The Hawks actually sold a player at the deadline when they won the cup.

I don't see any holes right now and if some develop, there's a good chance they can be filled internally.

Sarcasm or not, I'd be good with getting Grabner or Reasoner as long as we don't have to give up a ton (for Grabner, obviously). Reasoner would be kind of redundant unless we felt Kruger wasn't cutting it (he is, in my eyes), but can you imagine a line like this?

Stalberg-Kane-Grabner

That line would skate circles around everyone.

I agree with what most are saying right now, though. The Hawks are in really good shape and unless a good deal falls into Bowman's hands, I don't think any changes need to be made.

Could you imagine if the Hawks did get Okposo? Not that I'm the biggest fan of his, but the Hawks would then have 3 of 10 players picked in the top 10 of that draft, and Ivan Vishnevskiy (who the Hawks still hold the rights of) who was picked 28th overall.

Jonathan Toews, #3
Kyle Okposo, #7
Michael Frolik, #10

I know it's next to zero percent chance but Streit would be perfect.

They have a pretty big hole in the top 6. Stalberg and Carcillo aren't top line players. If you could get a 50-60 point player or even 2, the Hawks would be lethal.

Imo, the acquisition of Okposo would be a great thing for this team. We get what we didn't have last year and sorely missed, a big bodied LW who can put pucks in the net and play on the first line with Toews and Kane (should Q eventually choose to reunite them). Even if they aren't reunited, it will give Toews a consistent scorer to work with.

Okposo-Toews-Hossa
Carcillo-Kane-Sharp
Bickell-Bolland-Frolik
Brunette/Stalberg-Kruger-Mayers
Brunette/Stalberg

They also played at Shattuck together in 04-05.
