So what do the Hawk's do with this extra cap space?

From the Islanders' POV, they wouldn't give up Okposo for Bickell and a 2nd. That's why I threw Johns in there, they're looking for prospect defensemen and they already have a lot of PMD prospects. I figured Johns would give them a promising d-man who has a more stay-at-home feel and adds a large presence.

Especially if they're still struggling at the deadline, the Islanders aren't going to trade Okposo for less than a roster player and a future NHLer.

It would also make us the prohibitive favorites for the Cup this year.

Be patient and wait for teams to realize they're out of it and start to look to move players.

Lots of cap space + Deep prospect pool + top team in the NHL... All in all a great time to be a Hawks fan and it should be exciting to see what Bowman and co. do as we get closer to the deadline. I'd like to get a top six winger but another defenseman is never a bad thing either.

What's with the Okposo love? He had a decent season a couple years ago, was injured for half of last season and has 0 goals and 3 assists in 14 games so far this season. Unless the few times I've seen him play have been his worst games - I'm not sure Bickell isn't the better player. I know Okposo was a #7 pick and has upside - but one decent season (52 pts as one of the main players on a bad team) isn't something to overpay for.

Oh, for sure. We'd be hard to beat. Imagine if we got a good #6 d-man that can play top 4 minutes, and Iginla?

Give us the cup.

Exactly as you said, he's missed a lot of time with injury and has had a slow start. When he's healthy and playing well, he's a 20g 50p player, and that's not even factoring in his potential.

I'm thinking maybe a change of scenery will kick him into high gear.

Why would Columbus trade Jeff Carter after they just acquired him last off season? Be realistic...

Meh ,, He is streaky and had no chemistry at all with Toews/Kane (One of whom would be his C)

Figure of speech ,, Common for fans to identify themselves as "We" or "us" and alot easier then typing out "Blackhawks" or other team name

Never understood why that bothers people

Because rumor is out there he is unhappy and wants a trade out of Columbus (He wasn't happy to go there to begin with)

Fair enough, I guess. I just find it odd to use possessive's in regards to sports teams that one does not play for.

As far as Jeff Carter I say no, in spite of his supposed availability. His performance has been lackluster in the playoffs and I just don't think he has the character to play on this team. My reasoning may be irrational (and I fully admit that), but something about him just does not sit with me.

It's odd not to. The instinctual emotion that you are being "championed" by someone representing you and the fan base as a whole is at the essence of sports fandom.

Hence why I said "fair enough". To me it is odd, which is clearly not representative of sports fan in general. I am obviously in the minority and accept that fact. We are all fans of the Blackhawks here and that is all that matters really I suppose.

I wouldn't want Carter but I wouldn't be devastaed if Hawks kicked tires on him

He is good on wing

Sharp-Toews-Carter would be best 2nd line in NHL and Carter could help Hawks PP

I don't think the Blackhawk's would welcome him back.

I don't want him either. He looked terrible here before he got traded, and I'm glad he's gone.

I just wish we still had Ladd to show for it, but the Cup will do.

Not really fair. Both those guys have played a lot of their games on the 4th line and missed games, while playing <13 mins night with no PP time. Stalberg is on a 46pt/82 game pace, all at even ES, which is more than most 1st line players score @ES (no Hawk scored more than 50 pts ES last year.) Carcillo has added a needed physical element to the top six without holding back scoring on that line at all. The hawks can definitely upgrade talent-wise above those two, but it's not a need right now (this top six has 93 pts and is +63 in 106 player games, an incredible two-way pace.)

I don't know exactly what this team needs to add via trade right now. Let's see how Ben Smith fits in, if Morin can get back on track, how the D gels, if Bickell can wake up, if Stalberg is really finding his confidence, and most importantly where the inevitable injuries fall. But I agree with everyone, Doan works in every scenario.

Doan makes a lot more sense than Iginlia seeing both contracts, and Doan may agree to it for a shot at a cup knowing he can resign in Phoenix again on July 1st, seeing as how he is adamant at not wanting to leave the area.

Not sure how long we can wait for Bickell to wake up Larmer

Guy is a blackhole on our 3rd line at this time

Carter=no way. The Flyers traded him for a reason

I'd love to get Ladd back. At 5 mil per year we might be able to do it

No argument here. It's Ben Smith vs. Brain Bickell now. May the best man win. I think I know how this is going to end.

If Colorado and Carolina continue to struggle and decide to be sellers - here's what I hope happens around the first of the year.

1. Hawks trade Bickell & Beach to Colorado for Milan Hejduk, who has an expiring contract with $3M cap hit. Hejduk would need to waive his NM claus.

2. Hawks trade Lepisto and 2012 2nd to Carolina for Tim Gleason, who has an expiring contract with $2.75M cap hit.

Playoff lineup:

Stalberg-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-Kane-Hejduk
Carcillo-Bolland-Frolik
Brunette-Kruger-Smith
(Mayers)

Keith-Seabrook
Gleason-Leddy
Hjalmarsson-Montador
(O'Donnell/Scott)

Crawford
Emery

The money we spend on tickets, apparel and concessions basically pays the players' salaries.
