Just finished watching the game.

1) I thought JVR looked good all game. That pleased me.

2) Bryz was solid as well. Aside from a shaky looking couple minutes early in the 3rd, he was good. I loved the glove save on that breakaway.

3) This team is looking like they're really coming together. It's good to see, because I was afraid it would take longer.

4) I am a full-on Matt Read fanboy now. He had yet another good game, and he was rewarded by potting the winner.

5) Hartnell's little slash/spank on Smith's butt while Smith was along the boards with the puck amused the hell out of me.

God damn it.
Guy on Sportsnight called Bryzgalov "bryznailov" or something to that effect..

Also : Hug by Bryz was awesome.
Also : The matt read's celebration is very close to looking like Briere's... Can get confusing when im not watching while wearing contacts

I know Whitney didn't get much on the shot, but it's enormously comforting to see a Flyers goalie stop a 1v1.

glad to hear number 4. i know the jury was still out for you with Read. For me he is darn near my favorite flyer now behind Simmonds and Giroux. I love players with a well rounded game and Read is well rounded for sure.

This is some quality sports commentating on TSN2's That's Hockey: "The Flyers are 6-0-2 in their last 7 games."

So we are getting points in 114% of their games. Nice.

I don't think people didn't like Read, I think the concern is whether or not he could Read could sustain contributions over a full season. From what he has shown thus far, he clearly has the game to be a front-line player for this team.

I've never heard of 'inciting' called in a hockey game. It might fall under '10-minute misconduct' but I've never heard it actually called out by the PA.

On Read's goal...subtle differences between $51M goaltender, and a $4M goaltender. if Bryzgalov gave up that goal, there would be threads all over the place. Mike Smith will likely get a pass because he's Mike Smith.

Rule 75.4:

Quote:
(iii) Any player who, after warning by the Referee, persists in any course of conduct (including threatening or abusive language or gestures or similar actions) designed to incite an opponent into incurring a penalty.

Read just keeps on impressing. Read is fundamental! Could Holmgren trade for James Wright?

In the Matt Read discussion thread there were quite a few people mockingly referring to him as overrated. It was a bit extreme and unreasonable to say the least.

The argument as to whether he can sustain over a full season while a valid concern is not something limited to just Matt Read or rookies. That same argument can be made against any player even seasoned vets.

Anyway, he's showing himself as a very well-rounded player some of which was brought up prior to him making the team and based on what he had shown with the Phantoms.

One thing though is that although he is an immense talent in comparison to former Flyer Derrick Smith...something about him besides his number reminds me of him. Stature maybe? Derrick Smith of course was a real good role player/checking forward.

Any thoughts on Read-Giroux-Voracek if Jagr is hurt? Voracek has a bit of magic like Giroux (but without the finish yet).

Go watch the interview on the Flyers' site. I love a goalie from Russia who uses latin to the media!

I kind of want to see what a line of Z - Giroux - Read would look like. That's a lot of speed out there.
