Kimmo's Kontract

I'm having a discussion with someone elsewhre and he's raised a point that i've not really considered before - namely whether Timonen has earned the contract he signed all those years ago.

Frankly, I think he's well and truly earned it. The points might not be there but there's plenty more to this game than scoring goals. The guy's been a hero. So what do you think?

I'm surprised no one has voted this down yet. I didn't think anyone player was ever worth any contract judging by the reactions on this board to every contract that is signed here and elsewhere.

Kimmo Timonen is a top 5 defenseman historically for a team with 45 years of existence. He's a tremendous leader and has been well worth his contract. If only we could have him for another 10 years. As far as players deserving a cup, he is right up there with anyone in the league who hasnt won yet. I really hope we can pull it off soon, and if he will definately give us all he has for the next little bit he has left.

I might get a lot of **** for this but he's been a better defensemen since he's been here over Pronger.

Kimmo is a boss. Totally worth his contract.
Bryzgalov however. Will he ever be worth his contract?

Putting aside any debate about any pro players in any sport being paid a greatly overinflated salary, driven by free agency and open market wars, and various reasons teams need to overpay to keep their fan-base... and basing my answer solely based on comparable players on defense in the NHL during his contract... there is no way I could say anything but, 'YES' for this complete warrior and talent.

Kimmo is a small player who plays big and plays through most all injuries, lacing them up when many other players would be out... Kimmo rarely gives less than 100% and if it was possible I'd say he gives more than 100%... he gives leadership and doesn't seem to ever be a problem to the Organization, he could wear the 'C' with honor is needed, but does not' need it to give his all... He can anchor most any NHL team as a #1 D-man, and I'd say all NHL teams as a top pairing one... and last but far from least, he makes his partners play better and makes his team a better team.

It is often said that sometimes more is less... not in this case... I could go on and on about the Little General.

I think there needs to be Timonen's face on an ancient viking warlord's body, to go along with this post. (If there already is I'm at work and I can't see pictures or videos you guys post)

Kimmo will always be a player that no one really appreciates, I know that has been many times around here but it will really shine through when he's not here anymore. Almost never makes a stupid play, he's an excellent passer and would be a key member on any team in the league. I only wish he had a cup.

I've always felt he kept us from drowning for quite a few years (primarily before Pronger got here). Though, he still does on most nights.

He's been a hero, hoagie, sub whatever you want to term him. His contract and signing were well worth it and akin to when we got Desjardins with the added bonus of LeClair who was basically a throw in.

Anyway..it seems he is going to play this year and one more year b/c in the opening show of Meet the Flyers he implied he was going to play two more years...while last year he made it sound like this year would be his last with the Flyers. I guess we'll see and hopefully we get another stud D man in the offseason...

I'm thankful that Kimmo, Hartnell and Briere saw the team for what it was and what it had he potential to be, and knew the pedigree... rather than look a them as the last in the NHL team -- by far -- when they went after them. Sure they had to be overpaid, but with the long contracts they signed hey made a commitment to the Flyers showing faith in them, knowing they want to win a Cup... and with Kimmo, he had to know it was in all likelihood his last chance. They did get at least one real good shot as a reward.

Kimmo could have signed with so many teams... and could have even been paid more on the open market, I suppose, and signed with a team already built and coming off a Cup run. He had faith in the O&B, and hey had faith in him.

I believe kimmo has already stated that this was his last contract... IMO he won't change his mind, and if he does, he would have to realize that he wouldn't be getting $6,5M again... or anywhere near that with he Cap as it is.

Who are the 7 people who voted "no"? Who the **** would think he isn't worth his contract?
