Subway series finished up last night, Adam Lowry and Zach Yuen played for team WHL in a 7-5 loss to team Russia. Yuen was even with 1 assist and 2 PIM's, and Lowry went -1 with no points or PIM's.

Scheifele looking pretty good other than trying a spin in his own end while on the PP. Toffoli stripped him of the puck and went in and scored.

Wow, what a game for Barrie. Tieing it up with only 0.7 to go and then Scheifele assists on the OT winner 0:48 seconds in.

Crazy finish, for sure. Add in the short handed goal that Ottawa scored to force Barrie to go for the game tying goal, and it was quite exciting.

PS: agree with the kudos from other posters - great job on the game by game and overall stat updates - really appreciated!

Everyone is focused on the Telegin's heroics to tie the Barrie-Ottawa game in the last second and Scheif's 3 pts, but totally overlooked was Cody Sol's 2 goal, +5 night for the Kitchener Rangers.

It was generally a good night for Jets CHL prospects. Adam Lowry got a pair of goals for Swift Current and Julian Melchiori of the Rangers finished the night at +3.

Telegin wasn't that great last night. Most of the game he appeared to be either out of the play or not really trying. I was at the game so I don't know how it looked on TV, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't show on the tube because he was just so far out of the play. Truthfully, I wouldn't have him out there on that final shift, but it worked out. Always nice to throw your arms up in victory in someone else's barn!

Scheifele's goal was a pinpoint shot - he had four inches to shoot at and that's where he put it.

I just wanted to stop by and put in a plug for the play of Peter Stoykewych. He's been playing great hockey for CC, and has become one of their top 4 defensemen as a freshman. I think he's leading the race for rookie of the year for the team, and he could win it without picking up a single point all season. He's earned his way into the regular lineup due to his great decision making, solid defensive positioning, and great skating. Other than one bad game at UNO, he's been one of those defensemen who almost disappears because he makes the simple play and keeps the opposing team from generating any chances. He's already become a fan favorite on the CC fan forum for his steady play.

Thanks a lot for the info! Definitely good to hear that he's playing so well as a rookie.

Any thoughts on the play of Aaron Harstad?

I was somewhat concerned with Telegin has he's struggled thus far this season. To see him actually come out and dominate a game like he did today is great to see.

Mark Scheifele would force a giveaway and then Tanner Pearson poked the puck back of the net to Scheifele who found a wide open Ivan Telegin in the slot who roofed a snap shot over the shoulder of Igor Bobkov.

3:18 into the third Telegin scored his second on a great play by Pearson who maintained the puck in the corner before swooping in front and firing a shot on goal where Telegin was perfectly placed for the tap-in rebound goal.

Not even two minutes later on the power play Telegin found a pile of room on the right wing and sniped a shot past Bobkov to complete the hat-trick.

Mark Scheifele made a jump to #28 on Hockey Prospectus' top 30 prospect rankings: http://www.puckprospectus.com/articl...articleid=1184

They use a few different metrics to grade the prospects, so if anything it's always a good, enlightening read.

Here's what Corey Pronman had to say about Scheifele:
"I admit I'm jumping on the bandwagon late, although I still have my skepticism about Scheifele's ultimate projection. The hockey sense is a legit plus tool and the puck skills are better than I gave him credit for, but the skating worries me and it's what likely keeps his projection at a good second line player. "

Edit: Also found Pronman wrote about Klingberg in his November roundup: http://www.puckprospectus.com/articl...articleid=1155

"Klingberg has gotten off to a really fast start in the American League racking up six goals and seven points through the first 10 games, although he is shooting 23% early on. Klingberg's bread and butter has always been his skating and physical game and one scout said that's more or less what he displayed in a viewing. The scout described Klingberg as a quick, agile skater who closed in quickly on the forecheck and was a real physical threat who also displayed an edge to his game in scrums after the whistle. Klingberg's absolute offensive upside has always been questionable at best and this scout echoed that, referring to him as a third- or fourth-line type, though noting his shot was quite impressive. I've seen Klingberg show an above-average to even plus shot, but shooting ability doesn't really make an offensive threat in today's NHL. "

Thanks for sharing those 2 finds.

Scheifele has time to improve his skating if he concentrates on it and I have no doubt he will within the next 2 years. It baffles me that some evaluators/scouts don't recognize that a player can markedly better his skating , happens every year from 12 year olds to NHL'ers .

Jonathan Toews did it through Edge of Excellence here in Winnipeg for a couple of summers and he went from having his skating be just ok for an elite level young player to above average. No reason Scheifele won't do something similar , albeit at an a slightly older age.

Yeah, he knows skating is the thing he needs to work on. Hell, pretty much everyone knows it. He actually said that was one of the things he was really working on over the summer.

I'm just happy his main skill is hockey IQ (probably the hardest thing to teach and pick up later on) and his weakest is skating (which is probably the easiest to learn).
