Someone on another site recalled Dean Brown saying Phillips was injured at the end of the game last night. Does anyone have any actual news about this? Sorry I don't have a link, and I can't go back and re-watch it on my PVR (Son is playing Wii...darn PD days!).
All the hate on Phillips is pretty lame. Guy's been a loyal soldier for 15 years and is asked to play like a #1 dman when he's a #3-4 guy. Oh and he plays against the other team's top forwards on a nightly basis and we're winning.

But... but... what kind of fans would we be if we just watched our team and didn't identify scapegoats!?
I suspect they were just being careful with him given the score. There's no sense in sending a hurt player back on the ice when you're up by 4 goals and dominating the play with less than 20 minutes left.
I doubt Phillips will be the Captain, TBH. Phillips will only be here for a year or two after Alfie retires. It's much more likely that Spezza gets it, because that will give them long term stability.
I've never understood the hate for Phillips. An incredibly under-rated player. Spezza is our captain for the future, but I'd still like to see Phillips get a brief stint before he retires. The guy has been so loyal to this organization. He brings great leadership and veteran poise to a young, growing team.
Stop ragging on the guy, he's been a champ for us.

Yah, but you have a bias...
But yeah, Phillips won't be the captain but he has been one of the most steady defenceman in the NHL over the past decade and a bit, so the hate is stupid.
I think the "hate" comes from how he's paid. Anyone who knows hockey has seen him regress over the last couple years. He will continue to regress. Yet instead of paying him like a regressing player, we payed him like he was 26 just entering his prime. He's not a top shut down dman and he's just getting worse.
we shouldn't have signed him to more then 2-2.5. He's an OK shut down guy with no offense. Giving him 3.5 is bad cap managing(though that doesn't matter right now as we're near the bottom). Plus you'd think he'd be loyal and give a home town discount if he wanted to play his whole career in ottawa so badly. None of this happened.

Agreed.
He's loyal and been in the trenches with this city.

Phillips had a chance to show true loyalty to this team by accepting a trade at the deadline last year. He didn't want to be inconvenienced and cost us a building block.
I don't want him anywhere near our young kids. He could have gone to a playoff team but winning doesn't seem to be one of his priorities.

and 90% chance it would have been montreal which is what an hour and a half away..... plus we wouldn't have this problem with too many D.

So by your logic if Alfie doesn't accept a trade next year if he plans on retiring afterwards, then he is not loyal to this organization despite putting in 17 years of his life.
Nobody here knows what discussion Murray and Phillips had, but IIRC Phillips was open to discuss being traded if he couldn't get extended.
