Very mentally (and physically) fragile team.

The Habs lost 3 precious points this week so far.

Well, let me ask you. If you were JM would you want a little punk foreigner like Eller showing you up while the player you replaced him with is busy with his blind aimless passes?

Oh I better before someone thinks I'm serious.

I totally agree. As soon as I heard Budaj starting after the shutout, I thought to myself, 1. Price is hot, ride him. 2. How mentally tough is that for Budaj to follow up a huge win like that and shutout from Price.
I realize Price needs rest but unsure about Martin's philosophy

As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we had enough donations to actually send him down... which is absolutely hilarious.
Are you kidding I don't want that bum anywhere near the Canadiens prospects in Hamilton, use the money to buy him out or hire a hit man.

I know this has been harped on but still, Lars Eller with a grand total of 1:53 minutes of ice time in the 3rd period.

remember monday when people wanted to shank Price for losing the game in a shootout?

but yeah the first (and I think the 4th?) goals were pretty brutal. Still, we almost came back, I liked how this team never gave up.

The 4th goal was the one PK tipped past Budaj and while I'm far from being an expert on goalie technique, I'm not sure anyone can reasonably argue that he should have stopped that one. The 3rd goal on the other hand, is a different matter.

But I, like you, was pleased with the way the team tried to come back. It's just a shame so many defensive zone mistakes led to goals. But I guess that's what happens when a team makes so many defensive zone mistakes.

Budaj played because goalies do not play 3 games in 4 nights. Rangers>Islanders, you start your best against the best, its that simple.

Yes mate, i teach this to my boys every day ! Butterfly base position, stick on ice at all times. It went five hole. If his stick was where its suppose to be that puck never goes in.

Just re-watched the goal, didn't think it had gone 5 hole. I thought PK had tipped it back towards the near post (on the side the pass came from) and lifted it over his pad.

Even still, if Budaj has his stick on the ice there, looks to me like that one would go over the level of his stick and still find 5 hole as Budaj opens up expecting to have to move across towards the back post but if he has his stick down then I agree it at least gives him a chance to get a piece of that one.

He may have played it worse than I first thought, but still, it's another goal tipped in by one of our players, which has happened a few times this year and I seem to recall was an issue at the start of last year (or maybe the year before) as well. If the D (or a forward) wants to block a shot then they have to be sure they are going to get all of it (like Emelin was doing the other night, very few of his blocks saw the puck get past his body IIRC and those that did seemed to only trickle by him) otherwise they are just making the goalies life more difficult by either screening them or changing the shot/pass they are dealing with.

And back to the stick down while moving across issue, both our goalies have had some problems with that this year. How big an issue to fix might that be? I've never played the position but I imagine it might be a fairly simple task to remember to do it as part of that movement. Or is it something to do with the way our goalies are moving across (their balance, the mechanics of how they are moving their bodies) that either forces or makes it easier for them to bring their stick up when they shouldn't be? As a forward, I'm more accustomed to drilling goalies in the head with slapshots than focusing on exactly what they are doing

Whether he played the shot poorly or not is kinda irrelevant, he's our back up and has to play from time to time. Playing a goalie 3 out of 4 nights is not done by many coaches. JM tried to give Budaj the softer game, I don't fault him here. Budaj played bad, not JM. I liked the idea of sitting Price for the Rangers.

Something has to have happened behind the scenes for this to have happened. If not, then Martin really does have to seek help because that doesn't make any sense.
