Legendary Aud voice.

5th Buffalo goal, his 40th of the season, scored by number 16, Pat LaFontaine.

Assists to #89, Alexander Mogilny and #10, Dale Hawerchuk.

LaFontaine, from Mogily and Hawerchuck.

Time of the goal, 16:14.

I thought that said Matt Ellis and had a minor freakout.

Still a tragedy, he had an incredible voice. RIP Milt.

An announcer from the old school.

He always announced every team's goal, every team's penalty, with the same voice, same inflection, no added excitement for the home team, the way it should be.

RIP Milt.

I don't remember his voice as I don't remember a lot about the Aud (I do remember some but not much) but RIP none the less. Thoughts with his family.

Besides having the perfect voice for the job, this was his best attribute. I have a pretty bad memory, and even though I was pretty young when I went to the Aud, I can still hear his voice on command.

RIP, Mr. Ellis.

RIP Milt

One of the three iconic voices I grew up with as a Sabres fan. When i was a kid, my friends, brothers and I would always try and imitate his voice to "announce" our street hockey goals. To echo Chain's comments, a little bit of my childhood passed away.

Growing up we were truly lucky as fans to have had Milt, Ted and RJ.

Mr. Ellis was the kind of PA announcer that I want to be. Just from listening to a few samples (thanks for posting the above link - I had lost it in my bookmark) . . . Milt gave us information in a clear and concise manner, without being flashy or biased (which is something we see in sports way too often these days).

Thank you, Mr. Ellis . . . RIP.

Milt, if memory serves, had retired from the post in 1996-right before they moved into what's now known as the First Niagara Center.

I, too, took in many Sabres games as a kid with my dad at the Aud-and remember the voice very well.

How many Sabre fans could recite every goal in just that manner, emulating the no-frills baritone from the PA system? I sure could growing up. Ellis' was just one of so many wonderful, distinguishing characteristics of the Aud - right up there with the Earl of Bud, the strobe-light endboards, the fan-made banners hanging from the balconies, the acoustical baffles hanging from the roof....and so on.

Sad loss but vibrant memories...
