Why give up anything when he's a soon to be UFA? 7 months and 9 days until that glorious day, let the countdown begin...

I also think they'd want a younger guy and a 1st like Brett Connolly.

And I believe the team elected to go to arbitration. Which they won't be able to do again, but with what Weber got out of it last time, he may file for arbitration himself, if Nashville won't play ball.

Pass. What's Hedman going to become? Another 7.5 million/year defenseman?

It'd be silly to not take Weber, but not at the cost of Connolly + 1st. We need 12 forwards and only 6 defensemen (and 2 goalies).

When you have the opportunity to take one of the top 3 defensemen in the game for prospects, you take it.

Don't overvalue our prospects like that... makes you sound like a Leafs fan.

A signed Weber? Yes. An unsigned Weber? No.

We don't have the talent or depth to take a risk like that.

He'd be an RFA. It's a minimal risk, but with potentially huge upside. Hedman-Weber Brewer-Ohlund... all of a sudden we have one of the better D-corps in the league.

Wouldn't go that far. Top half perhaps.

Why all the love for Weber over Suter? Suter's what we need more...

Better defensively, covers for a lot of Weber's defensive deficiencies and a smoother skater. Weber's just the better known entity and is flashier with a harder/better shot, throws bigger checks and is more vocal. I think Weber was like -8 when Suter was out of the line-up last year. Most Nashville fans would also agree that Suter is the better defenseman, he just goes under the radar since Weber sells seats.

I don't think anyone is saying Weber over Suter, although both are stellar. That's just the name I saw floated. Anyway, I doubt it would happen anyway. What type of cap restraints is Nashville under? I know they have good attendance... would their owner be one to spend to the cap?

From what I've read on the main boards: Apparently yes.

I still think they'd be in a Rays type of situation - spend to the cap for a year or two and then cut back again.

Brett Wilson from Dragon's Den officially became an investor for the Nashville Predators this November. He only has a 5% share of the team, and I have no idea if this means the team will be able to spend more money but it's a step in the right direction.

I don't see them spending to the cap ever, but I see them re-signing both Weber and Suter. I see them always leaving about 5 million in breathing room. IMO, look for both players to be re-signed for between 7-8 million.
