How far of a walk is that from Commerce to the Arena?
If they really drop you off at Commerce and 5th then it's one block away. Commerce/4th is the same block just on the other side. Either way it's at most a 5 minute walk.

None are cheap (not that they are ridiculously expensive either), but if you have a few people in one room it's not that bad. These are all within walking distance of the arena.
Also, there is more info in the Visitor guide thread at the top.
1. Hilton - directly across the street (5th Ave)
2. Renaissance - Commerce/7th Ave
3. Holiday Inn Express - Broadway/10th Ave.
4. Hampton Inn - 4th Ave. S. and Korean Veterans Blvd.

6. Courtyard Marriot - 4th/Church
7. Doubletree - 4th Ave between Union/Deaderick Sts.

My daughter and I went to our first games as Preds Fans from Atlanta last Thursday and Saturday.
All our Thrashers gear went into the attic the day they moved. (Except my Kovy's Army tee-shirt)
My daughter got a Preds Tee shirt (Youth size) for $19 at the Arena. I stopped at Walmart in Murfreesboro on the way home and got Preds Hooded sweatshirt for $28.
The very nice lady next to us gave my daughter a Preds bracelet when she found out we were Hockey Orphans from Atlanta.
Ate at Broadway Brewhouse Thursday - awesome Pulled pork sandwich. Too bad smoking is allowed in there, but it (the smoking) wasn't horrible. I'd probably go back for the pork.
Ate at Rippys Saturday - I got pulled pork again, not as good as BBH.
We both had an awesome time.
You missed out on the best pulled pork in town(IMO)-- Jack's BBQ, just across the street from those two places! Gotta hit that one, next time--personally a big fan of their Kansas City "sweet and smoky" sauce!
Why not? Most restaurants used to have smoking and non smoking sections and they would ask your preference when you came in the door.
There's a law in Tennessee (or maybe just Nashville) regarding smoking in restaurants. If it's designated 21 and up the restaurant can have smoking. If not, it's supposed to be non-smoking. Whether it is enforced is anybody's guess, but it was at the beginning. We had to stop frequenting one of our favorite hangouts because our son was, at the time, under 21.
Fine with me. I hate that law and I don't smoke--but I do like beer, barbecue, and hanging out in bars with my kids. ;-)
The law in the city I work in prohibits smoking in/on, or within a certain distance of public buildings, and if you take a "smoke break" at work, the technicality of the rule is you have to smoke in your car with your windows up. I don't smoke and I think that's insanely excessive.
First time to Smashville and it was quite fun. I wound up wearing my white Thrashers jersey to the game. We stayed at the Best Western only a short walk away and ate at Cadilliac Ranch there on Broadway(Cajun chicken sandwich was quite good). Seats were on the first row of 324 and after the game I picked up a t-shirt and a hat for the winter.

Glad you had a good time. It would have been better had the Preds won of course
Yeah a win would have been nice but oh well there's always next game. One dude tried to give me some **** over my jersey by asking "Hey who do the Thrashers play tonight?" and a few Sabres fans would say how they wish Atlanta still had a team so they didn't have to come to Nashville(lol). I ran into a few other people with Thrashers gear on while in line at the concession during the 1st intermission and just kinda talked to them for a few minutes. Then there was one lady who came up to me while I was browsing one of the team gear stores and she said that she was sorry that the Thrashers are gone but welcomed me to the Predators family. After the game just kinda walked up and down Broadway and then ended up going into Coyote Ugly for a little bit.
