So how many people ride their bikes in the snow/winter in Montreal?

Because I don't really want to start taking the bus...

Many people do. Not sure how it's a good idea though. Walking seems to be a better solution.

Walking in the cold and on icy sidewalks is not cool.

Not keen on walking at least 30 minutes to class at 7:30 in the morning either.

Damn I still need to put on my winter tires. Working 7 days a week I never find time to get a chance to put them on. And my work doesn't like me taking time off This sucks. Wish I can get someone to do it for me but they can't drive stick for squat.

It's not THAT bad. Take the underground from Bonaventure until Eaton Center, get out at Maisonneuve and take University up (IIRC Strathcone is beside Trottier...).

I ride year round. Personally I've found that slim tires are the way to go in the winter. One would tend to think that a mountain bike tire would be better but the slims cut through snow a lot better.

Only days I don't bike are the day of a major snowfall (10+cm) or anytime there is freezing rain.

Make sure you get some winter lube stuff for your chain and derailleur though or you'll end up with a squeaky mess in the spring.

Thanks for the heads up
I never really had thought of that since the weather was always pretty nice.

McGill should find a way to get an underground passage from Eaton Center to campus. That would be awesome for the students.

go through the metro turnstiles, past the jewelry place, go in the building where they sell the student ID cards and the Subway (also a Second Cup, dentist and some clothes store), go up to the ground floor, then you only have less than a minute to walk to get to campus. You'll end up at the Sherbrooke/University corner.

Hopefully there is none on the ground on Saturday. That's when I'm scheduled to put my winter tires on. If not, my car is staying in the garage until there is a suitable day to put on my tires!

This.

The campus is less than a minute away if you take this route.

It'll all be gone by then. We're supposed to see double digit temps by the weekend and going into next week.
