the NHL isn't likely to pick a football stadium that could be hosting an NFL game within days of the WC (remember MetLife has two home teams). they ideally want 1 week plus to prepare the ice/layout.

They already hosted the WC twice in an NFL stadium. I know it's rare (well I'm not even sure if it ever happened before) that the Jets and Giants both play away games the same week, but it could happen. If the NHL and NFL both contact each other about it, it could be done.

I'm not going to buy them, but just out of curiosity, how much are you selling them for?

https://www.facebook.com/pages/HAVE-...13277112017523

If they can build a rink on Sheep’s Meadow with temporary stands seating up to 20,000 — people will come. If they play the Winter Classic in New York, people will notice.
The real question is not can they do it, it's do they want to do it? And the answer to that is a resounding no. 20k people isn't much more than an average NHL arena, and that's not the experience they are trying for. So you are right, it would cost them too much money to build AND they would be losing money on missing out on more than double the amount of tickets they could sell if they held it in Yankee Stadium. 20k would probably barely be enough for both teams season ticket holders, let alone the tickets they need for other reasons (contests, trip packages, ticket lottery, ect).

Met life isn't going to happen either. Winter Classic is an image thing. Met Life is not in NY.

It's just not going to happen. If it was it would have happened already.

If the NHL was willing to go the 20,000 to 40,000 with many others standing instead of sitting and focus mainly on the backdrop and the scenic aspects of the winter classic instead of their own pockets; then it's doable. But we all know money is everything in business.

Still wouldnt be able to display the experience/spectacle aspect of the game that they want. They don't have to make concessions. They know the venue they want and can wait. They put NY in this one as the road team to tide them over till they can get into Yankee stadium.

The backdrop of a game in central park IMO outweighs everything as a fans perspective. The experience would be amazing.

The contract for the Pinstripe Bowl actually only runs until 2013. So, if the Yankees and the NHL are smart..they will try and get the Rangers on the ice for the 2014 game.

Last I looked, every time I have gone to Giants/MetLife stadium, NYC is in the backdrop. So what if it is not technically in ny. 80,000 to watch a hockey game is in incredible.

I'm not saying I wouldn't love that. But it's just not the look they are going for with the winter classic.

So now not only will the Great One pass on the old timer's game until its held in New York... but its being said that Gretzky won't play in the alumni game unless its at Yankee Stadium.

So long to all those other ideas. Gretzky means dollar signs... so Yankee Stadium it is!

Well yeah obviously. I'm saying the NHL will hold out on bringing the WC to NY till the Pinstripe Bowl contract has ended... and when they do, they will likely not entertain the idea of other sites (MetLife, Central Park, etc) with this added piece of information

I think a commemorative lanyard, knitted hat, and a rally towel.

How many times are people going to argue this, its Yankee Stadium or bust, as well it should be..2 of the most storied franchises in American sports in their respective leagues. The only place in the world compared to the yankee stadium mystique (old or new) is MSG, they go together. And it will take place in 2015 because the pinstriple bowl contract runs out in 2014.
