Toronto interested in signing G Joacim Eriksson.

One of the Swedish Leafs fans posted a link to one of Sweden's biggest online news websites which states that the Leafs are interested in signing former Philadelphia draft pick Joacim Eriksson. Through his first 11 games in the Eliteserien, Eriksson has a 1.52 GAA and .940 Save%. The 21 year old went unsigned by Philadelphia after they signed Bryzgalov and already had Bobrovsky.

Actual quote in the article comes from Thommie Bergmann, Toronto's head European scout. Toronto prospect Petter Granberg currently plays on the same team as Eriksson. Article also states Toronto is interested in French forward PE Bellemere, also on Eriksson's team.

The more depth, the better for the team. But aren't we at the 50 contract limit or am I mistaken?

Not surprised, Toronto seems to have the cornered the market on FA prospects. They get about what, 3-4 a year right?

How's their depth chart shaping up(for goalies) next year?

Doubt it would be for this season - he'd have to clear waivers.

Perhaps the Habs would get Eriksson signed if they don't draft [Malcolm] Subban.

Hoard hoard hoard HOARD!

never a bad thing to have more goalies, we haven't had a top 15 goalie in a decade. If one pans out, it'll be all worth it.

As much as I like Reimer, one solid season(or half) doesn't alwaays mean our savior is here

Good idea, can't believe nobody picked him up yet, major mistake by Holmgren.

Was Homer so confident in Bryzgalov that he thought that Eriksson was expendable?

Leafs have a good way of persuading free agent goalies. Ben Scrivens, Rynnas, Owuya, Gus all signed because of Allaire.

Owuya has been playing unreal to start his NA career in the AHL.

They didn't sign him, wanted to clear contracts for useless players.

May be an indication that Gustavsson's on his last contract with the Leafs, depending how the rest of the season shakes out.

Leafs seem to like maintaining 5 goalies on pro contracts: 2 in the NHL, 2 in the AHL, 1 in the ECHL. Partially an acknowledgement that the ECHL has become a fine path for goalie development (see Reimer and Scrivens for current Leaf examples, Owuya at the start of this season)

Ottawa should be all over this guy.
Sure, we have Anderson and Lehner (Auld is gone after this year), but after them, nobody.
Make it happen BM!!!

He would be the 5th young UFA goalie that Burke has signed in the last two and a half years. Crazy.

Perhaps you should watch The Monster play before using the sarcasm tag.

He has moments of brilliance followed by 3 heart procedures over the last two years. Only to be sat and left to rot on the bench by rotten Ronnie.

In the last few games he's played -- he's been excellent -- now that he's been able to see some consistent action.
