Coaches are there to win games, period. They are not there to win a popularity contest with player x, y, z.
I wouldn't have a problem with Volchenkov if he was earning Hall Gill type money but he isn't. He's a bottom pairing SAH d-men that can throw big hits and work wonders on the PK. That, to me, isn't worth 4.25M$ per and the length of his deal makes it even worst.
I just hope that his worth will be justified in the playoffs cause IMO, that's one of the main reasons why Lou picked him up. On the other hand, his grenade handling skills might bite us in the ass if he turns the puck over via the breakout. There's not as much room to roam in the SCP so he might actually be utilised more then what we are seing atm.
