Absolutely. At this point of his career, he doesn't strike me as an ambitious professional athlete, he just wants to live in Edmonton.

Why not? Are you saying that the Kings aren't as good as the Oilers?

What? Yeah, that's what I said. He wasn't happy here for whatever reason. Hence ya know, asking for a trade.

He is setting marks that he has never before hit in his career...his career best EVER was 70 pts (over 10 years ago)...clearly he is in some sort of boredom/frozen Edmonton tundra induced trace that is causing him to shoot nearly 20% atm.

I agree that he won't keep up this pace for 82 games, but he never came close to this stretch of 20 games in LA. And he played with Kopitar and Williams a lot.

And some players feel rejuvenated when leaving a situation where they are unhappy. Whether it was missing his family or unhappy with Terry Murray's style, we will probably never know.

Of course. I don't think anybody has said he played the same. But, he did get off to a hot start, imo. And he just tailled off.

I don't get why posters are so hung up on him. It's not like Dean wanted to trade him. But, at the same time, I think the Kings got a better and more consistent in Gagne.

Is it safe to say the Oilers never really wanted him? Hence that respectful return. To me it is, at least.

Thats my point, he has never come close to this anywhere. Even when he was in Edm before....

After the first 20 games of the 09-10 season, Smyth had 22 points (9g, 13a).

I'm not sure how you interpreted that from my post.I'm well aware he forced the trade and the gigantic cluster **** that followed is all on him. My point being is we still could use his production on this team right now, considering our bottom 6 couldn't score at womens prison with a fist full of pardons. Scoring is still a major problem on this team and whether you were for or against Smyth as a King, he still scored goals and put up points.

You are right. Now let's see if he fades as deastically in Edmonton.

Want to talk about an AHL squad playing defense?

Leopold/Ehrhoff
Brennan/Sekera
McNabb/Gragnani

Weber
Myers
Regehr

injured.

Meanwhile, Stafford, Gerbe, Lieno, Gaustad can't score for ****.

Ennis is hurt, Miller is hurt

Vanek/Pominville are looking to be coming off their high of the early season....

Tough times in Western New York man.

Word is either Vanek or Pominville is now injured as well.

Talk about a season completely derailing in the matter of 3-4 games.

So someone in the Rene Bourque thread on the Trade Board said they'd do Bourque for Hickey straight up. I'd do that deal easily. Would any of you?

EDIT: Oops it was Hickey+2nd for Bourque

I like Bourque as a player but I hate his contract.

3.3 mil til 2016?

No thanks

A Hickey for Bourque straight trade....we don't have the cap space for it.

I'm tellin you, at the Deadline we are unloading some contract weight. Stoll, Penner, probably Mitchell if we aren't in a playoff spot (doubtful)

No. That contract is way too risky to take on. He fits that tweener second-third line player role I'm personally looking for this team to grab, but that's a ridiculous deal.

1. No on Bourque, he is another Penner and Stoll type guy. Way to much money for a guy who doesn't seem to care.

2. Mitchell better not be traded, regardless of where we are at the deadline. Kings need to be trying to re-sign him.

3. What team would trade for Penner or Stoll? Two huge contracts for guys who have been trash.

Mitchell will not be dealt. I expect an extension at some point this season.
