Frans Nielsen

I am a fan of Frans and I am in no way advocating trading him but the way the Islanders are playing I don`t think there is any way he would resign. What would he bring in regaurds to picks and/or young players at the trade deadline? He is a UFA after this season.

At the deadline you could proably get a pick and/or a defensive prospect out of buffalo. Maybe a 4th that turns into a third if he signs with buffalo. I might be off on the value though.

First, I'm a fan of Frans Neilson. He's a good player playing for a bad team. However, his trade value doesn't warrant a 1st rounder coming back.

I contender would love to acquire a player like him much like Boston acquired Chris Kelly last year.

I think his value is similar to what Boston paid for Kelly last year.

Islander fan here and I have to agree with you. Especially with him being a unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

I think your value is very close, I was thinking a very late first or a 2nd and a decent prospect. Kelly is a good comparison also

Sharks should definitely offer a 2nd if Nielsen is available

Sabres could probably give their second, or maybe CGYs second for him if that's his price. Either way the sabres blue line could use him....that way MAG can go back to the pressbox where he belongs.

Nielson is a forward.... not a D-man .... having said that... I'd like to see him on the Sabres as well.

To VAN- Frans Nielson
To NYI- Keith Ballard

Gives Vancouver ridiculous depth of two-way forwards and hopefully can be re-signed to play with Hansen and other fellow Dane, Niklas Jensen.

Ballard gets out of the spotlight and a bigger role where he can hopefully get back to being a solid top 3 defenseman.

Frans Nielsen is overrated a tad. I dont usually agree with him but the Dark Knight pretty much nailed it on the head

He's a better version of Kelly who can key a shutdown unit rather than just be a very good third liner behind an actual checking center (Fisher and now Bergeron).

IMO, I think he is worth a late first/early second.
His offensive production soared last year and I'm sure from December on he will make more leaps and bounds in his play.
Hopefully, GMG will sign him to an extension before July 1st

In a player poll this offseason he was voted the most underated player in hockey. He is in fact the complete opposite of overated. In terms of value its probably an early 2nd round pick but his value to the islanders is far more...I would try and extend him before trading him and if I was trading him I would ask for a 1st rounder. If you look up "3rd line center" in the dictionary Frans Nielson is the definition. Solid facoff man, outstanding PKer, able to put up ~40 points, amazing defensively, leadership skills(has worn the "A")+ as an added bonus he is one of the best all-time shootout men since its introduction to the game.

I don't see a 3rd liner worth an early second. Even if he is a good one.

I think a 2nd + a prospect. He's better than Chris Kelly.

He's a capable second line player and one of the best third liner's in the league. If you can get him for any type of 2nd round pick, you should be falling over yourself trying to call Snow to do so.

I'm not going to get into the debate about whether or not Kelly is as good as Nielsen, but one thing that folks need to remember is that Kelly had one more year on his contract. Nielsen is an UFA at the end of this season.

In other words, the team trading for Kelly wasn't just giving up that package for a rental. They knew they'd have Kelly for the playoff drive AND for another season. Nielsen's a pure rental.

That's why I don't think that the package Ottawa got for Kelly is necessarily comparable to what the Isles would get for Frans.

I hope he resigns, Isles will be horrible down the middle without him, their transition game takes a huge hit and be just bad defensively.

Sharks should be all over this. How does MIN 2nd and one of Doherty/Petrecki sound?

I agree, losing Nielsen would really hit the Isles hard.

Why not? Seems reasonable to me on first glance, although admittedly I'm not current on the state of either team (other than the Isles having recently overtaken us in the race for first overall draft pick...).

The wings could use a good center like that. I'd offer a 3rd and Jiri Hudler or Cory Emmerton.
