Never hurts to take a chance but you can only fit so many wallets in your pocket.

One thing is certain. Eriksson is better than Owuya. I know that Mark has been outstanding for the Marlies so far this year but Eriksson plays the same style and he's a lot more effective.

Why not sign him?

Sign all the hottest Swedish goaltenders coming out of the SEL and you're bound to eventually come up with a winner.

Really takes the guess work out of signing prospects if you just nab them all!

I say go for it, nothing to lose!

The main reason that Holmgren didn't sign him was because he wanted to stay in Europe if he isn't in the NHL. Im pretty sure its safe to say that if he is signed, he's staying right where he is.

Rynnas could be the odd man out next year if the Leafs add another goalie prospect and he continues his slide.

Good news on Eriksson, He's tearing it apart right now. I don't much about the french forward though.

If were delving into euro UFA market I'd hope Damien Brunner is on their radar.

Sounds good. We could sign him and let him stay in Sweden and then bring him over and see how he handle the AHL to begin with. Not some one I expect to see on the opening roster for next season.

Strange really. Sweden did not produce any goalies at all for a very long time but then all of a sudden that seem to be the only thing we produce, well not really but there is a lot of them. It might have something to do with "handsome" Lundqvist with his star potential having a break out year 10 seasons ago or so in Sweden. And the fact not even Swedish top clubs had specialized goalie coaches until recently.

Seriously it's going to be:

Reimer
Scrivens

Owuya
Rynnas

----
---- (ECHL)

Sparks
Not to mention we still have no idea what the hell is going to happen with Gustavsson. If he keeps playing the way he has in the last few games he could make a pretty good case for himself. Imo, when Gustavsson is actually at his best and confident he's better than Reimer, however Reimer's consistency and mental make-up is in another league and Reimer is much better technically which makes him more consistent and the team also plays better in front of him. Depending on how the rest of the year goes this will all be a very interesting situation by the end of the season. I'm a big fan of both goalies though so in the end all I really want is for both to play well and I'm sure things will work themselves out.

I have to say though that Burke has done a pretty good job in picking up "free wallet" goalies. Scrivens, Rynnas and Owuya have all shown great potential and Scrivens and Owuya look especially promising, Rynnas is having his struggles but I view him as a boom/bust project player who will need time.

Burke is trying to get us away from the goalie graveyard image we've had since post-lockout and aiming to become a top notch organization in terms of developing goalies. Gustavsson has also shown flashes and we know that he is capable of play at both ends of the spectrum, from mind bogglingly brilliant to absolutely awful. Then we also have Sparks as a draft pick who's a project as well but he's getting better and is still very young and could potentially challenge in the future. Nobody really thought anything significant of Reimer a few years back, until he made some noise in his rookie AHL season and look where he is now. He did have better junior numbers than Sparks though.

I wouldn't be opposed to signing Eriksson at all though, nothing wrong with having some nice depth, and the way Owuya has been playing is encouraging as Eriksson could work out the same way.

I really like the way this organization has been going with goalies over the last season and a half with regards to prospects and development. Having Allaire as the goalie coach is quite instrumental in the development of these guys.

I was just thinking about signing him now, As appose to at the end if the year and there some big pluses for all 3 parties.

It a appears he only has 1 year remaining on his contract with Skellefteå so by signing now while under contract with Skellefteå they would still receive the $200k us(or whatever) transfer fee, Then we would just "loan" him back.

We would get a top young goalie, And Jocim would have a nice signing bonus.

Everybody wins.

Chances are Gus isn't here next year.

He either plays lights out, and doesn't resign because he wants to be a Number 1, or he sucks and Burke and Co. walk away anyway.

I also think the Organization has soured abit on Rynnas.

Scrivens isn't young (26 next season)

You could be looking at:

NHL:
Reimer
Scrivens*

AHL:
Eriksson
Owuya/Rynnas

ECHL:
Owuya/Rynnas
----

Or perhaps Eriksson spends some time in the ECHL getting comfortable in North America.

Rynnas though has dropped down the depth chart a lot. I'd say he's one of our lowest goaltending prospects.

I read something about him not being the same since his injury, so perhaps it'll just take some and starts for him.

If we can sign him, great, can't hurt to have lots of young goalies in the system. He can just stay in Sweden to develop, and come over if/when the time seems right. I'm sure we won't be the only team pursuing him, but Allaire might give us an edge, a lot of goalies seem to want to get a chance to work with him.

Don't expect the Maple Leafs, or any other NHL teams, to sign Eriksson or Bellemere this season as they would have to clear waivers.

Great. Works right into Allaire's system, and can't hurt to stockpile on prospects. The more the merrier

He can stay in Sweden for the year, then replace Jussi Rynnas and start in the AHL.

He does not need to pass through waivers because he would not transition to North America this season. His contract would either begin this year and then loan him to Skelleftea or his contract starts next year. Both players could sign, but neither would be coming over. Hockey Break is a bad source.

Today after the Skellefteå-Frölunda game I was agreeing with some friends that Bellemare could very well get NHL interest in the near future. The guy isn't a spring chicken exactly but he keeps developing with age and honing in skills every season and getting more and more complete as a player. Amazing team player, can be used everywhere and one of the hardest shots in SEL.

Most people were very disappointed with how Eriksson played last year and he didn't seem confident and not there mentally. He's a changed played this season, and fixed basically all the technical problems he had earlier. Personally I'm not totally sold on Eriksson but I would love to see him get a shot.

I don't know if that's legal, sign a player who is under contract in a different league to a deal that doesn't kick in until next season? Doubt it.

I LOVE these older, free wallet goalie prospects. Never have too much depth.
