Whistle should have been blown. It wasn't. Players shouldn't have stood their expecting a call. Play the damn game as hard as you can UNTIL YOU HEAR THE WHISTLE GO OFF. It sucks that what happened happened but you can't just stand there and expect everything.
That as well.
I wonder if the refs didnt want to call it off because they already disallowed two. (that were right)
Naturally, if the refs lose sight of the puck.. game is called off.
but let's face it, we were only in this game b/c of Price.
Pens clearly outplayed us most of the game, we were opportunistic with chances and got stellar goaltending (09' playoffs anyone).
That's our bread and butter, and this game is exactly the difference btw a real "contender" and a "happy to make the playoffs" team.
question is how many more years will it be until we have a team as well put together as the Pens, or any of the other multiple-year contenders...
LOL at this post. You have to play awfully bad for a long time in order to build a team like the Pens. Most Habs HF posters would commit suicide if we ever finished at the bottom of the league for so many years.
what happened at the end? It looked like Price had it covered, but stupid NHL network cut away before they showed a replay.
Price had the puck underneath him, ref was on the wrong side and didn't blow down the play. Gill gave up on it, assuming a whistle was coming while Neal and Letang basically stabbed at Price, who couldn't hold it and got scored on.
Possibly never again, considering how few teams in this league manage to constantly be contenders every year.
The Pens have a once in a generation player, another top 5 player, a great supporting cast and possibly the best coach in the league. And are loved by the league itself. Don't hold your breath seeing that anywhere else.
red wings, sharks, canucks, caps, pens... all teams that have navigated the cap system and managed to build around their obviously talented stars in a way that allows them to be contenders on a longer than 1-year basis.
Pens are great b/c of their stars, but also b/c of coaching (as you point out), AND management (shero has masterfully built his roster up around his two 8.7M stars). how good the pens have been even without Crosby/Malkin is a testament to that.
we have mediocre coaching and management, we get mediocre results... pretty simple.
Because JM is a ****ing tool. How many times do we have to say that?!? Guy is a idiot...deserves to lose his job tonight!
Jacques breathe a sigh of relief after the ref did not blow the whistle.
He now has an excuse for losing this game. People will forget that he allowed another blown lead and that his PP is still ****. Most will only remember the ref screwing up and blame the game on the inept ref.
Meanwhile, our inept coach has an excuse to hang on longer to his job.
