On turf you plant and turn. You can get really bad knee injuries like this. Hockey is not much different, if you catch a blade. That's more rare though.

Both sports are very bad for planted leg impact injuries. Would not say one is better than the other. When you've dug into the ice on a stop and get hit on the knee, you're toast.

Indeed. Thank you for that anecdote, Teufelsdreck.

Markov's Return?

Rumours are often to be ignored, but there's one currently floating around about Andrei Markov's possible return being slated for Saturday against the Penguins.

That would be special, but highly unlikely given that Jacques Martin said last week he doesn't expect Markov to return until after the Canadiens Western swing next week.

Stranger things have happened.
I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Yeah, not likely, but Marky is cleared for contact, he's been working out and skating for weeks. Why not? I could see the Habs pull a surprise one on this. It would be fun. Bell would go nuts.

Ak46 might be back tonight against the Pens!!

Sorry if this is somewhere else and I've been away since Wednesday (not able to follow what's been going on, except the headlines). What happened to Gomez? And he's definitely out for tonight?

New rumour is that Markov might be ready for the Anahiem game. I think he will travel with the team on their trip, but JM said he wont play until after it right? Anyway Dec 6 isnt far away if he doesnt play during the trip.

I cant wait for his return, but I just want him to half a full season.. even if we are 20+ games in.. just stay healthy please.

I know someone who went to the 'skate with the habs' thing today and while he got a picture with white, it didn't look like he was skating at all. Geez.

The bottom of the post will usually say who the last person was to edit it with the updated info. And I agree, those who have been updating it are doing a hell of a job.

Injury update from MAG on twitter:

Campoli is practicing with the team (non-contact).

White, Spacek & Engqvist are skating.

Gomez is absent from practice.

Dave Stubbs says that Gomez is not expected to make the trip out west.

Good news about Campoli. He could be 7-14 days away.

One has to ask oneself whether that's because he has a bruised ego or a banged up shoulder.

Impact to your legs with your feet planted on the ice doesn't happen a lot in hockey. In football skill position players often have 2-3 guys tacking them while they try and get an extra yard, makes for a ton more leg injuries.

Sounds like at this point(barring more injuries) we should have a healthy roster by Christmas or New Years.

I'm thinking New Year's since it sounds like White is still a few weeks away at least.

If we can get Campoli & Markov back within the next two weeks or less that would be huge. Weber & Diaz come off the blueline. Weber goes to forward, and Palushaj can be sent back to the A, along with Engqvist.

Good for the Habs. Good for Hamilton.

I wouldn't mind Weber playing up front until White is back.

Gill-Diaz, Gorges-Subban, Markov-Emelin, Weber-St-Denis

Per Renaud.

Oh yeah
Good to see Emelin playing RH side with Markov, means that may be their plan going forward, rather than maybe scratch him for a righty(Weber or Diaz) or paly Gorges on the RH side.

Weber's a better option up front then Palushaj. He can be moved back to D at any time in a game, and can play both specialty teams. A step back might be good for him, and allow him to re-adjust and find his confidence again.

Once Gomez comes back things will get interesting. Gomez will be in the line-up for sure, and I would still play Weber before Darche. Gomez isn't even skating, so I don't think he's coming back any time soon.

And the mysterious Spacek remains in limbo.

Let me pre-empt the "Who cares?" chorus with a big, "I do!". Yes, our young guys have been doing a great job, mostly, but never underestimate Spacek's value to the fast transition/forechecking game, which translates into scoring chances.

I agre, Spacek was playing very solid for us. Would rather have him in the lineup over Gill right now, Spacek is very useful when playing reduced minutes and on the left side.
