I wonder how many first overall picks Holmgren will blow for an underachieving defenseman.

If he does i say we end up with Komisarek ...

How about that Lupul/Pronger trade? Lupul top 5 in points, Pronger under the knife again.

I also heard that Homer is also contemplating giving Pronger a 10 year extension when he recovers

seriously though, who is available? Please no McCabe....

HAH. interesting, considering lupul has missed 87 games since we traded him.

this.

yeah, trading a vastly underachieving forward for the large majority of his career for a bona-fide hall of fame defenseman is always a dumb move, considering we have the ability to see the future and everything.

anyone would have made that trade, and they're blowing smoke if they claim otherwise.

i was happy to see lupul go.

You realize Anaheim took Lupul for our cap needs, and we basically gave them an extra 1st because of it, right?

i do realize this, and while the trade was a bit of an overpayment, hindsight is always 2020. lupul was underperforming greatly, and we were in win now mode.

Could Gunnarsson be someone we go after? We don't need a superstar and we don't want a bad defenseman, he is pretty average / 3rd pairing material that could look good.

Timonen - Coburn
Carle - Gus/Bourdon/Marshall/anyone but Lilja/Walker
Gunnarsson - Meszaros

Timonen / Coburn would eat up most minutes while the rest of the crew would split it.

Also, maybe this is a good time to dangle Bob..

As bad as the D looks, I would actually prefer Holmgren just stand pat. They still should be good enough to tread water for a month.

If he decides to make a trade then I'm afraid we are in for some ****

Sigh..well I said all offseason he would be a 50 game player at best from here on in..mostly b/c of the back but looks like he's got a number of ailments. Gonna be fun watching him be a part time player and all the disorder that comes from it. Oh well we got one trip to the cup and almost pulled it off if it wasn't for Leighton....

Nice lying by management once again (although not surprised)..and this is the same management that some people conveniently take at face value when it comes to denials about the Carter and Richards trades and some of the "mystery" behind it...

He'll spend more time on LTIR than the active roster as he gets older and older and older

See, this doesn't work when a lot of people:

a) Criticized the idiotic Lupul contract in the first place.

b) Were miffed at the price we paid for a guy Pronger's age and the fact that we were basically bidding against ourselves at that point.

I fail to see how they lied. Who's to say he hasn't had a virus for a few days?

I guess 24/7 will tell us.

Edit: Using your stream of logic, then why should we believe what Homer said about them partying a few years ago?

Pardon...to be more fair..management tells half-truths. The point is that you can't take them at face value regardless. Yeah and Homer put his foot in his mouth back when Wayne Fish reported about the off-ice exploits...he does that a lot and like I've said they are just bad at hiding things particularly when they engage in outright denials. When they use terms like "outrageous," "it's crap" etc then you know they aren't being totally forthcoming...

I won't argue that at all. Half truths seem to be their hobby.

wouldn't it be interesting to see the reactions to a trade on 24/7 though?

Pronger Set for Surgery Yet Again; Holmgren Conference Call Transcript

Below is the transcipt of the conference call held by Holmgren today, explaining not only the situation with Pronger, but also the domino affect it is having on the club’s ailing roster:

Q: How long have you known he’s had a knee problem?

“Obviously Chris has played a long time. This has been an issue probably for the last month or so for him that’s been nagging. He’s been playing through it up until this recent bout with his virus. As I said in my statement earlier, we kind of believed that through continuing the rehabilitation that he’s been doing on that, that he does on a daily basis anyway, and some medicine, that it would start to feel better. But Chris saw the doctor yesterday and had another MRI, and we just decided that this was the time to go ahead and get this taken care of. Some of the loose bodies in there are becoming a little bit of an issue, and we felt it was better to get it taken care of now.”

Q: Did he miss games because of the knee or because of the virus?

“The reason he missed games was because of the virus. This came up just recently, yesterday, and we decided the best way to attack this is with surgery now. But he’d been missing games because of the virus. It had nothing to do with his knee.”

Q: Has he recovered from that virus now?

“Well, he’s certainly feeling more like himself. If this hadn’t come up with the knee, we were hopeful that he’d be able to play on Friday. Obviously now that’s out of the question.”

Sadly Chris is getting old.

We should have acquired him 10 years ago...we would have 2-3 cups
