Completely agree with the first part. I'm still not convinced that the second part is true -- NOBODY aside from Garrioch has said he wants out. Filatov's denied it, Murray's comments were WAY out of context, and attempts by me to get him to clarify have resulted in a Twitter block and an unresponded e-mail.

You do not ask a highly skilled player (which is what Filatov is) to be a fourth line player, it's unfair. Woold you of asked Gretzky or Lemieux to play on the fourth line?
They're simply not able to play that type of role...It's clear that the sens dnever intended Filly to be a fourth line player, come on!!!

Garrioch wants all Senators to fail. His comments and completely unfounded in logic or knowledge. He's out to trash the team and players in a effort to sell papers. I'd much rather read an informed article myself. Too many idiots lap this bile up as gospel.

He starts all sentences in the 'round table' (pun intended) with the phrase ... Look!

Be careful though, you only get one chance to trash him before he blocks you.

He's worried that Filatov will stick, and all his fear mongering about him fleeing to Russia will look like idiocy.

Which it was.

A thread came up on the main boards about the performance of goalies. Here's one of the posts:

First thought? Filly don't do rebounds

All that aside I hope he manages to find his place in this team.

Speaking of that rebound thing, I noticed on both goals that Nikita was on the ice for, he was right there to knock in a rebound if they would have bounced his way.

Maybe not so much the Spezza goal, but he was sitting right on the back door for Rundblads goal.

I noticed that, too.

Similarly, he was set up in Gretzky's office at one point and the whistle blew as he passed to Karlsson creeping in from the point because Foligno knocked over Ward.

Seems like he was doing the right things. Maybe a little bit of bad luck.

Filatov will get a goal against Winnipeg if he plays the same way he did against Carolina. Lots of jump in his step and seems to be taking chances offensively.

If Niki gets real icetime(consistently), he will produce...it's that simple.

The only questionable decision thus far in MacLean's tenure here has been playing the kid constantly on the 4th line. Only now he's finally starting to realize Filly needs minutes.

If only it was that simple. Good first game last night to be sure... we'll see how he does over a decent stretch of hockey. You talk as if anyone can come into the NHL, get prime mins and put up point.

It really wasn't that questionable, he had guys that were earning that ice more. Anyone that gets top 6 ice time will produce more, the key is whether or not he produces enough or not to justify it.

That about sums it up. Does the kid deserve a legit shot on the top line? Abosolutely. Does he have the ability and tallent to produce in that role? No question. Will he? Remains to be seen and like it or not the number one concern for MacLean is winning games.

I think Filatov's rope on the top line will be a little longer than the first 2 games of the season but he still needs to do something with those mins. Carolina was a very good start, could have had a couple of goal but he needs to put those pucks in the net.

Lets hope he kills it.

someone with his skillset ''should'' put up numbers if placed with top line players and given top line minutes, he hasn't really had that chance yet in Ottawa and playing him on the 4th line is quite redundant.

He's either a top 6 NHL player or a KHL player, I'm just surprised it took MacLean so long to figure that one out.
