Haha I know.. I was just being a dick

How many points do you guys see him putting up this year? 105-110? Thats my guess. I think he'll only get better as the season progresses.

Jonathan Drouin could also be joining the Moose afterall, along with Frk (whenever he can come back..). That will also only help his point totals.

Those numbers are probably unrealistic considering he will be missing some time with the U17 world championship.

Frk was cleared for contact today so he should be back in a couple weeks time.

Edit: Well looks like I was a little premature. Should only miss a game or 2

If Mackinnon plays the full season he is on pace for 108 points. Pretty sure that would make him the 1st 16 year old since JT to score at least 100 points.

Dont think he gets into the WJC camp, so I expect he plays 65 - 68 games. Really think he can get at least 100

He'll miss games for the U17 if he doesn't make the U20.

I do think he could be invited to the WJC's training camp. What do you think Serge?

I don't think so. From what we've heard about the TC brass, he wasn't really in their plans. Anyway, I give him a 50% chance. I think we could see Hudon invited before him but I might end up being wrong and I would be happy if he was invited because he deserves it.

Sounds like MacKinnon wasn't invited to the WJC camp. Can't say I'm surprised.

Same. I'm glad, he can help the Moose rather than play 4th line minutes on Team Canada

Great move by Team Canada, he may just be another Seguin or RNH.

The last guy from the Q who got a premature invitation as a 16 year old was Angelo Esposito. Remember that. Going to the camp at a young age isnt always good for a players development

Ugh... Esposito's development has nothing to do with him being invited at 16...

Me either. Even Crosby did nothing (relatively) as a 16 year old.

The invitation didn't hurt Esposito's development. His attitude had everything to do with his own failure to progress.

Im saying having a 16 year old kid wearing a bird cage, go up against guys who are generally bigger and faster, even if less skilled isnt always great for a young player. Even JT, who wasnt even a rookie, said the camp as a 16 year old was really tough on him

Definitely. There's a reason it's said over and over that this is a 19-year-olds tournament (just look at the gold-medal winning rosters recently). When two of the best CHLer's in recent history (Crosby and Tavares) have little to no impact on the tournament as 16-year-olds; it shows you how hard it can be.

I would agree with this as well. The WJC is a completely different beast from the CHL. It looks like MacKinnon isn't happy with the decision (looking at his tweet), hopefully he tries to prove Hockey Canada wrong over the coming months.

I'd argue that MacKinnon is big and fast enough to compete, but at best he'd be as good as some of the options ahead of him. Thought he'd get an invite, but wasn't sold at all on him making it.

Don't understand why they wouldn't just invite him for some experience next year.....

Don Hay on why MacKinnon was left off.

Quote:
“We just felt at this point, as good a hockey player as he is, to come into this tournament, (MacKinnon) probably was just a little bit behind where we wanted him to be,” head coach Don Hay said. “Just overall hockey maturity. It’s a very, very strong physical game. At this point with the age factor that goes into this tournament, we just felt that it would be too, too difficult for him right now to be a contributing factor.”

Literally every single invitee was born in 1992 or 1993 except for Dumba, who was born in 1994. MacKinnon was born in 1995, he's simply too young, everyone but Dumba would be 2-3 years older than him, no need for team Canada to take a 16 year old when they have so many excellent 18 and 19 year olds to chose from, those are major development years. Only 2 of the forwards invited are currently undrafted, and are eligible in 2012. I would have been pretty surprised if he'd been given an invite, I think this is the right move. If he keeps on developing he'll likely make the team next year.

Personally I think he should have been invited. He is as physically strong and as fast as many of the players who are invited, and has the skill to compete with them. I know it is very rare to see a 16 year old even invited, and he is not Crosby, but I feel like he could have contributed in many ways. He has the physical presence and speed to play a checking role if he must, and I think given the opportunity to play with elite players would have only helped his development, but I could be wrong.

i agree he should have been invited...even if they did not want him to make the team...I can say one thing he is faster than any guy there imo...I think they should have invited him just to get experience for the year after at the least...as young as he is he is already better than some of the best in the QMJHL.
