I would be interested in McCabe as a back up plan. If he is physically fit. No faith in Marshall.

I would at least ask if he is available.

Better keep our first rounders (unless we are getting Suter/Weber) and Schenn goes nowhere.

Those kids, i.e. Marshall, will hardly play 10min a night.
By the time Pronger is back, Kimmo will already have run out of gas.

Pronger's knee must be really bad, else they would have waited until Gustafsson has recovered from wrist surgery.

The Flyers still maintain that their captain had a virus … but then management dropped a bombshell Monday morning with an email stating Pronger will undergo knee surgery on Tuesday and miss another four weeks.

In August 2010, Pronger had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

This time, it’s his left knee.

"This has been an issue probably for the last month or so," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren in a conference call. "It's been nagging and he's been playing through it up until this recent battle with his virus. We kind of believed that he'd be doing rehabilitation on a daily basis anyway and with some medicine he would start to feel better, but Chris saw the doctor and another MRI [on Sunday] and we just decided that this was the time to get this taken care of. Some of the loose bodies in there were becoming a little bit of an issue.”

Four weeks from surgery is Dec. 27, a day the Flyers play in Tampa Bay … and five days before they play the Winter Classic on Jan. 2 at Citizens Bank Park. Well, believe what you want about the virus, but hockey teams are known for hiding injuries, and in this case, the Flyers definitely weren’t open about Pronger, 37, being bothered by a sore knee.

“The reason [Pronger] missed games was because of the virus,” insisted Holmgren, whose team is in the middle of a five-day break that has the Flyers off until Friday in Anaheim. “This [knee problem] came up just recently and [on Sunday] we decided the best way to attack this is with surgery now. But he'd been missing games because of the virus. It had nothing to do with his knee.”

Holmgren says Pronger now is about over his virus.

what about Shaone Morrisonn? He is used to play well for Caps. 2M a year but we would have to waive Shelley. So I guess it's a no-no.

The virus was obviously balderdash. He and the team wanted the media off his back. I've must have said it 1,000 times: Never believe a word these guys say.

Hopefully the media holds them accountable like they did with Richards. I'm not counting on it though.

If only they had called it a "lower body injury"...

Yeah, well, they were trying to hide their captain.

If this was Mike Richards, they'd have media staking out at his house with black helicopters in the area. Let's see if the same thing happens.

Is two bad knees really better than one chronic bad knee? Either way, this sucks, and will most likely bother him the rest of his career.

I just read this and realized how ****ed the Flyers are:

Quote:
Pronger, who has five years left on his contract, has missed 10 games already this season, and missed 32 last year. But Holmgren isn't worried about the health of his aging captain (Pronger turned 37 last month).

Can they throw Carle/Shelley/Lllja to someone for one competent Dman? Oh that's right Jesus Shelley performs miracles everywhere else but on the ice, eh I kind of want them to hold firm and not do anything and see how it goes until Pronger gets back

i didn't even think abou that! i was really looking forward to seeing how pronger interacts with his teammates in the locker room, and watching him call out people despite putting some points up on the board. but remember, this won't stop hbo from checking in on pronger at home and during rehab. they have an agreement with the team and nhl for total access to the players and the facilities on and off the ice. that being said, think its time to pry bouwmeenster from calgary. they are about to blow up that team and iggy won't waive his no trade, just a thought.

As a fan of the entertainment Pronger brings, this makes me sad, because he more than likely won't be a main focus in HBO's 24/7 now.

I'm looking forward to getting to know the other players on the team on 24/7. I'm really hoping to see Torts and Lavi more than anything, and I'm also curious about how the other Rangers treat Avery.

They hate him, my friend knows one of the equipment managers who I met also, at the flyers rags preseason game this year. He said hes a dick and nobody likes him. Surprisingly said the same thing about Duninsky
