I'd prefer to send him to Columbus, but

Semin

for

Penner, a pick + a $3 million salary dump

Eh?

Do not want Penner anywhere near this team. Talk about a guy who's lost his game.

The question is, what would you do with the $3M?

I think Semin's version of failure is more entertaining than Penner's version of failure. Penner would just be depressing.

I mean if the rest of the deal were right I guess I could learn to like it (both guys make sense as low-risk change of scenery types) but if I had to guess I'd see it as more likely Semin turns it on here than Penner.

If we got him, it would make up for the Pokulok and Finley draft fiasco!

That said, I don't know how in the world we could pull it off without giving a prized defenseman or a certain Swedish center.

They don't want a certain Russian forward in return.

Yeah I'd imagine it would take Alzner/Carlson +

No need to do it for a W.

Nashville makes a ton of sense. Ryan is affordable if he gets back to the production he's capable and Anaheim couldn't do much better than getting back Suter.

Bobby Ryan would be a perfect fit... If they're looking for a rebuild, I think we'd have some good pieces (Schultz + Perreault + Neuvirth + Eakin + Galiev + picks) but if they're looking to still compete I don't see much of a chance of us getting him unless we trade Laich...
Laich
Schultz
Perreault
1st

???

Idk it's kind of tough...

My dream scenario is packaging Semin + WSH 1st (+ Perreault if absolutely necessary) for Ryan or Iginla. Too bad it will never happen, ever.

If trading Ryan is their version of rebuilding then maybe Eakin and an avalanche of 1sts including the Colorado one with Hamrlik leaving as a salary dump would entice them. Maybe send Schultz over as well if we can get Beauchemin out of it too.

If they're trying to get depth to stay relevant during the season then yeah we're not good partners.

I'd dangle Kuznetsov for Ryan.

Yakupov with Col's 1st would replace Kuz

Really want to keep Eakin, Galiev, Kuz... but if giving one up meant getting Ryan... i dunno.

What are the chances any of those players become anything close to Ryan though? 24 year old power forwards with 3 30-goal seasons under their belt are rare players.

Think about it this way. In 3 full NHL seasons, Bobby Ryan has as many 30-goal seasons as Alexander Semin has in 6.

But how many hooking penalties, turnovers, or bongos!? See not everything is about goals...

Bongo playing is a very important stat in the new NHL.

It's right up there with gloves per game.

If Ryan is truly available, ANA is looking for a hell of a lot more than a Russian prospect with visions of Olympic glory bouncing around in his head. Have a look at ANA's blueline and you'll quickly realize what they'd be looking for.

My guess is that the NHL exec is feeding Kyper some bull, in an attempt to create some public pressure. Ryan is signed long-term to a fair deal (while Getzlaf & Perry will be UFAs in only a year and a half). To get Ryan, teams would have to completely overpay (or iow, Carlson AND Eakin). Doesn't have the smell of a McPhee type maneuver.

Rumor has it Ryan's being shopped because he has attitude and motivation issues. If that's the case, I wouldn't give up more than Semin for him.

How about Semin + Hammer to DET for White, Tatar, and Nyquist?

What would possess Detroit to do that?
