yeah he wants to grab a D (Hannan maybe) for a pick, but is at the contract limit.

I'm not ignoring that at all. I agree that Shelley should be waived. But maybe Nodl should be too is what I am saying. He's a solid fourth liner, but the Flyers have plenty of them. Why hang on to all these fourth liners if they aren't all going to play? Yes its nice to have more options, but the Flyers have a lot of guys that could fill the same role (Harry Z, Holmstrom, Wellwood, Rinaldo, to name a few).

Maybe, maybe not. That's definitely a possibility, but like I said before, it could also be that having him on the team is repetitive. Getting rid of the contract is just a plus if someone claims him. If he clears, he probably won't be sent down, but that doesn't mean he did it just to get rid of a contract. There's no need to keep him, but there is also no need to send him down if he clears.

Good. At least he has a place to play. Their roster is basically an AHL roster

Let us "gauge interest" by placing this $20 bill on the ground. Oh! Surprise! Someone picked it up and took it!

Damn, was hoping the Canucks would get him. Hope he does well with the Canes though.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit of a "do somethig nice for the player" angle here, too. Nodl is definitely an NHL player but didn't seem to be favored by lavi.

I thought in 2007 Snider said that we will not trade our young players for old players. I guess he meant we will give our players away for nothing.

Meh. It's nice to have a contract spot open I guess, but it's too bad we couldn't get something for Nödl.

I don't think we're gonna miss Nödl that much, but still.

One of those shiny 2nd rounders we've got goes to CGY for Hannan?

The loss of the 6th round pick we could have received for Nodl will certainly haunt this franchise for years to come.

At 49 contracts now. WE NEED MORE CONTRACTS. Also defensemen.

I would have preferred to see us get anything at all for him instead of giving him away. I guess now Homer knows there was interest.

As I said earlier, just because someone claimed him doesn't mean that they would have traded something for him.

There are 30 teams in this league. Several of them are really bad and could make good use of Nodl. Something could have been gotten for him. He's not Shelley. Maybe if Homer had actually bothered calling other GMs instead of waiving him to gauge interest he might have realized that.

But please, continue your non-stop, blind defense of everything Homer does.

What I believe happened is Homer called and probably sent out a league wide email to say Andreas Nodl could be had. He probably didnt get any real interest, so decided to waive him to see if any team really wanted him. He probably came to the understanding nobody was going to trade for him. Once that happened he figured to send him to the waiver wire and if he gets through he sends him to the A and gains some cap room or he gets claimed.

you have no clue what you are talking about. Everyone will probably agree that Nodl is a servicable 4th line player. If you are looking to move a contract you dont dump players for free, Especially if the option is to dress Shelley more often.

Seemed like kind of a knee-jerk reaction by Homer, I think this is the first time he's done such a thing.

I have a very hard time believing we couldn't have gotten some later round pick for Nodl quite easily.

I'm not Holmgren's biggest defender, but I'm fairly certain that he explored the trade option before waiving Nödl. I know that quote about "gauging interest" sounds strange though. I'm also quite sure that the teams keep close look at each other, and when we kept playing Rinaldo and Zolnierczyk it was somewhat obvious that a decision needed to be made regarding Nödl sooner or later.

No one was willing to give us a pick for Nödl, and right now we could use a contract spot if we are to work out a trade for a depth dman. Nödl was put on waivers since he was likely to be picked up by someone, if they could get him for free.

It's not the best possible outcome for us perhaps, but it's not something to really be too upset about either.
