Quite the run-and-gun scoring game for UNB/ACD. UNB played great then ran-around then great. Not sure what to think sometimes. They did get 3 points out of 4 and remain tops in the AUS, 1 ahead of UdeM.
The SMU/UdeM game shows how tight the AUS is. 3 of 4 AUS games on Saturday night went to SO.

Even though Moncton moved up 2 spots to 3rd (interesting to see two AUS teams in the top 3) - No solid #3-4-5 choices with Moncton coming out on-top of the split vote.
It use to be common to see the Conference champions 1-2-3 then the rest of the country - I guess no one was sure about placing Alb as 3rd? I know they didn't play, but still remain in 1st despite having a bye-weekend.

SMU have always had slow starts and at last years AUS championship game 5 the game was lost in OT have the puck had stopped in the front of the net due to the rink operators beautiful ice job but in the St Thomas game it seemed as if they barely squeaked out with the win so for the way they have played as of late but i think a 7-4-1 record is a good start.The national championship year record was 16-8-4 and they have won AUS championships with 14 win years so I personally count them out for the AUS title but with UNB and Acadia in the conference who they have a 1-5 record against so far combined and have to face another 4 times it wont be easy.

Just a Note you do realize Cam Fergus still plays for St Mary's right? College Hockey is constantly a revolving door and thats the name of the game, replace players with Quality Recruits. I have to say in the first bit of the season I thought St Mary's was looking really bad, but theyve got better with each game and are playing well, but would you expect anything different with a Trevor Steinburgh Coached team? They had some solid new recruits who needed some time to gel, and they are now. the biggest Difference with SMU is Hotham, McDonald the Other Hotham at one time, Rancourt and Cody Thorton had the best Power Play Ive ever seen in the CIS, that was their bread and butter, but theyre finding other ways to win now. Cam Fergus is the only one remaining that used to get first line Power Play Time, and i think hes been playing a little hurt the past year and a half, back problems or something
He is back and playing really well actually. Thorton and Rancourt have been gone for two years now. That is an "eon" in the AUS. I agree CIS, at the beginning of the year I was very skeptical. I have only seen them live twice, once here in PEI at the beginning of the season and in Moncton a few weeks later, a 4-3 shootout loss. As UdeM jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second, I thought it is going to be a long rebuild. Then at about the midpoint of the second, they just took over, as you say, a TS coached team, they thrive on that deep cycle and corner play, just wave after wave of it, they also hit four posts, then MacKinnon's backhand in the shootout also went off the post. All in all I was really surprised, they were much better squad then I thought and saw in Charlottetown. Acadia has had their number for years, notwithstanding the 3-1 series win the year of the CIS championship (2010) I think they play better on the road than they do in the Forum actually, but I could be wrong. It is hard to see the details on webcast. Anyway, to get to the CIS tournament, you need to have several national calibre all star types, I agree, but they'll hold their own this year.

Oh thanks i never realized Fergus was back.It must have been recent because i was at the game about 2 weeks ago and he wasnt back yet.Im pretty sure hes listed in the program as a graduate and hes not listed anywhere as on the roster but my buddy says he played against DAL.Good to have him back.And just to clear it up i have no doubt SMU will be a playoff team

Fergus was "gone" after last season, but he came back to the Huskies just before their first game of this season, much like Bailey with UNB. Might have even been after the 1st game ... I don't trust my memory. AUS Fan probably has a better handlie on Fergus "graduating" and then coming back.
So odd that I missed it when I tweeted out the Top 10 a few minutes ago. And then the math didn't add up, so I though CIS made a mistake, which I had to publicly state on UNB fan site. And send an email to the CIS. Doh!

My guess is that a voter looked at the CIS standings, saw Lakehead in 1st place in their division with 26 points like McGill (forgetting that it came in 16 games played whereas McGill has played 15 games and UNB has earned 21 points in 13 GP) and noted that they are 9-1 in their last ten games which is tops in the CIS. They probably also didn't make any mental adjustments for strength of schedule or anything else.

there is no way the voter was from lakehead! This is a city that follows CIS hockey and are educated in who is good and who is not. Lakehead is good... but no one is pretending we are #1 at this point... I hope! ha

The UNB/STU game could have been a big upset, but the VReds stormed back from 0-3, after two periods, to win 5-3 thanks to 3 straight shorties to start the 3rd period.
X's win over ACD, in ACD, is a bit of an upset. Could X be back on track?
UPEI did UNB a favour and took a game from UdeM in Moncton and X
's win over ACD keeps them (ACD) 2pts behind instead of a tie for first.
CW is too close to call. Need to see some weekends with top teams going head-2-head.
