prudent use of the ignore function makes hfboards much more enjoyable
How could I possibly ignore Jester? Then I wouldn't be able to know the answer to every question/argument/problem/etc ever. I'd sooner throw out my computer than lose out on that!
Anytime you lose a servicable NHL player like Nodl for ZILCH you are not doing something right. Again my biggest complaint with Holmgren has always been his cap management. What he "gauged" in this instance is how poor other Gm's think he is with respect to the cap...
I guess your definition of a servicable NHL player and mine are different. Nodl sucks - he has no hands and no vision and is decent defensively. There are 100 guys in the AHL exactly like him. So he goes to Carolina - which sucks - and plays 8 minutes a night on their 4th line - guess what - that means he sucks. Why would anybody give up anything for him? I keep hearing "we could have gotten a 6th round pick!!!" Did some GM call you last night and tell you so? Did somebody tweet that? Was it posted on o&b?
The fact is - Read, Rinaldo and Zolnierczyk have proven there is no room on the team for him. This will give players like Testwuide and Wellwood a chance when more injuries occur.

Then I guess that ignorance truly is bliss. The boards are just so much better without scanning through page after page of back and forth bickering about useless crap. I just want to find a post that discusses if there is any possibility of adding Ballard or Hannan or dealing Carle or something substantive - you know - real hockey stuff.

That's true, but it would appear that the Wild wanted him for whatever reason. That's the guy they wanted, and a deal they thought was fair.
Also, what is a Nodl type player?
At this point, I just don't see him as being anything more than a 4th liner. At least he hasn't shown the ability to be any more than that. I thought he had potential at one point, but he has been passed by several other players this year. I mean I can think of like 4 Nodl-esque players on our team/Phantoms alone.
I'm not trying to make him sound like something he's not - but he's an good 4th liner that can play on a 3rd line without killing you.
On a reasonable cap hit, with NHL experience. That's got to be worth something. That's not a lot less than what Powe was

Define "sucks" and quantify "decent" defensively? Name the 100 guys in the AHL...how many games in the NHL have they played? I mean your conjecture is no more solid than mine. Nodl's problem was one of inconsistency and some of it should be attributed to injury. I still consider him a very serviceable player who is a casualty of poor cap management, youth movement with players like Couts and Read taking on some of his role, injury and an inconsistent start as a result of being in and out of the lineup. When healthy and getting the playing time he has definitely shown himself to be pretty good in a checking role and special teams. We know he is not gifted offensively so no sense quibbling over that. I think he's established himself fair enough in this league to be considered a decent asset who should net you some kind of decent return even if you package him which would have been probably a better approach if we had the cap space. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree and see if he has staying power in this league with Carolina and beyond.

I was always pulling for him but it just was not meant to be. Maybe a change of scenery will do him wonders. Who knows? Not the Flyers problem anymore.

How true you are. Plus when you do not agree with "certain" individuals the name calling starts. That ignore button is fantastic. A good honest debate is one thing. But the endless banter back and forth is just so monotonous it wares thin. I do not miss it a little bit.
I do, but with 20/20 hindsight Clarkie was a fool for taking him that early.
12 goals in 127 NHL games. I CAN'T BELIEVE HE'S GONE!!!
Uh, there's a world of difference between criticizing what was a good idea at the time, and criticizing moves that are blatantly stupid when they occur...even without the benefit of hindsight.

I miss it, during the offseason and when the boards are dead. During the season there are not as many opportunities to have those fun debates .

I to know how good he was in school. It is easy to bash someone for a mistake after the fact. But using your rational, every general manager in every sport is a fool.
Nodl had 22 points last year in 57 games. The average 3rd liner over a whole season only gets 20 if they're lucky. He had a run when he was hot, but Nodl is a classic case looks bad on the eyes, but looks great if you believe in the numbers.
It somehow doesn't shock me that a team who is constantly behind the 8-ball in regards to officiating shows their most disciplined player the door.
