According to multiple accounts, Bobby Ryan is available. What would we have to give up to get him, not including these players?
Weber
Suter
Rinne
Wilson
Smith

I hate Ryan, but just for value:

Blum+Hornqvist+1st

And even that may not get it done honestly. There's gonna be a bidding war.

I don't think they need Blum. They have a few quality PMDs coming through the system. I think they need forward depth more than anything.

Perhaps: Horns + Spaling/Beck + 1st

Does anybody know what Anaheim's need is? What are they looking for in return? From an outside point of view, it looks like an attempt to mix things up, meaning they need solid offense going back the other way.

I don't think there's getting around Wilson or Smith being part of the deal.
Something like:

Smith/Wilson+Josi+high pick

Watching a lot of Ducks games, I'm not that interested in Ryan, frankly. Tons of skill, but lacks that fire that makes Corey Perry such a tremendous player.

I, for one, wouldn't want Ryan on our team at all. I have an illogical hate for any person associated with the Ducks organization.

Don't ask their fans is the key.

Anaheim needs everything right now except two line forwards. Second liners. Third liners. I guess their fourth line can stay as-is if they get some better quality on 2-3. Their top pairing is fine, just not playing as well as they can. They need some bottom 4 defenders. Hiller hasn't looked so great, but I think he'll bounce back (at least to being decent).

Giving up Wilson or Smith would be taking a step back as far as I'm concerned, but if it had to be one of the two I'd pick Smith. I think a deal could get done without either of them.

They suffer more from a lack of depth at forward and a weak bottom 6 than poor defense. If they trade Ryan, and with Selanne and Koivu likely gone in the next season or two, they desperately need secondary scoring in return. I could see a defensive prospect, to go along with the likes of Schultz and Vatanen, but I don't see Anaheim being interested in any d-man as a centerpiece but for Weber or Suter.

I just want to add that Anaheim sucking makes me happy

Oh and so I'm on topic, if Weber or Suter is going their way they have to add. Ryan is good, but come on now. At least throw in a pick

Sure I hated the Ryan play on Blum last season, but I'll pick him up at the airport and carry his bags for him. This is money-mouth-is time for Poile and ownership. They say they want to get the offense on par with the defense, now is the time. Learn a lesson from blowing the Kessel deal. We have a stockpile of assets that few can match. GET IT DONE.

Hornqvist
Ellis or Josi
Laakso
First rd pick or Austin Watson.

Just to note, I believe the Ducks are at the 50 contract limit, so offering up 3-4 players in exchange is not a feasible option. At most, it would be 2 contract players, a prospect, and our 1st round pick, and in that case, we'd probably be taking on a contract back in addition to Ryan.

I'd throw some nice picks or prospects to get a dman in the deal as well. Lydman or Beauchemin, perhaps

Doubtful they'd trade either. Lydman's having a rough season to this point, but is still the best defensive d-man on that team. We're not really sending enough quality to pull that kind of deal off anyway. Most likely we'd be talking a dead-end minor leaguer.

Didn't the fans just laugh at your decent proposal on the Ducks board?

If a particular poster in a thread on the trade forum is to be believed, 20 teams are in on this deal right now. So, assuming Ryan is on the block and assuming this guy (who actually did call the MacDonald trade in 2007 on the button) has some sort of inside info (claims to know Ryan, but his only proof were some pictures of Ryan next to a painting and the one of himself wearing a brown bag but with Ryan no where in the frame) I still wouldn't hold my breath.

that means nothing to me. they think they can get weber or suter in a deal, and no one is going to pay that. even if there were really such a thing as star for star swaps, we lose either of those deals unless we were positive suter wasn't coming back and we had another plan to trade for a defenseman.

i saw that as well. i was going to ask if he knew if we were involved, but i figured i'd save myself the disappointment. knowing that we put a claim in on comeau kind of tells me what our budget and the level of player we're looking at is.

We had all been wondering about "would we keep Weber or Suter until year's end" or try to trade one. Well, sometimes a scenario is right under your nose and you don't realize it.

With that said.....it's not gonna happen. The whole league wants him, and our GM is in the bottom 5 of likelihood to make a deal like this. Move along people, nothing to see here....

But when other team's fans make basically the same proposal for Weber/Suter, we say only a star player would do. Because that's what they were saying after you put out the proposal. Deja vu strikes again.
