There'd need to be a 3rd team involved...we'd need to shed a salary to that team.
Or Sekera could be a part of the deal

I'd prefer Stafford, Weber, Buf 2nd round pick for Paul Statsny. Our weakness is our center position. I love Ryan, but Stafford and Ennis is too much to give up.

Please tell me he has the same opinion of Stafford's game as Zip.

Knowing our luck, he was gonna trade Ryan for Leopold.

And he'll probably be sitting in the seat next to Brian Burke tomorrow night.

Can't argue the fact he is listening to offers and checking out the possible goods, just doing his job.

Some of these Sabres will have to start playing a lot better before they can bring anything of value back.

Roy and Stafford, right now, couldn't get you a bag of pucks.

I'm not sure what your issue is with Stafford's game tonight. He hit a post. He set up one of the best scoring chances of the night to Pominville, who failed to finish it. He was taking it to the net and taking shots. He also made a nice play on the PK when he made a clean steal of Streit's cross-ice pass to Tavares for a one-timer. Sure, he needs to score, but I liked his game tonight. I thought he was more consistent on a shift-to-shift basis than every forward but Hecht.

Says...you? Fortunately, NHL GMs take a more global view than "what's he done in the last seven games?"

I want to see what they can do when healthy some more. That is what makes these injuries so discouraging. It makes it difficult to know the team they can be. I feel Myers, Miller and Ennis will get going eventually. They were not playing great when they had everyone, but they were still tied with the most wins in the NHL. I do think something needs to be done for a deep playoff run, but so much depends on how guys play when they comeback.

Yeah, says me.

That's what it said in my post you quoted.

And, who said 7 games?

Stafford has scored 1 goal in 19 games.

Tell me, what do you think his value is on the open market?

I want to hear that.

I've got a couple (more for end of the season than now) so here goes...

Deal 1:

To Buffalo:

C-Jordan Staal

To Pittsburgh:

LW-Tyler Ennis
RW-Drew Stafford
2012 1st round pick
D- Drew Schiestel

Deal 2:

To Buffalo:

C-Joe Pavelski
G-Antti Niemi
D-Douglas Murray

To San Jose:

C-Derek Roy
G-Ryan Miller
D-Jordan Leopold

New Roster:

Vanek-Staal-Pominville
Leino-Pavelski-Boyes
Gerbe-Adam-Kassian
Hecht-Gaustad-Kaleta

Regehr-Myers
Murray-Erhoff
Sekera-Weber

Niemi
Enroth

Look, I called you on saying Roy and Stafford couldn't fetch a bag of pucks. Own your hyperbole. So you think Stafford's value has completely disappeared in 19 games? I want to hear that.

Or that Derek Roy, who's essentially been a .9 pt/game center--you know, the hardest position to find--through the years all of a sudden doesn't have value? I want to hear that.

NHL GM's look at more than what a player has done lately. They're not message-board posters like us.

Sabres do both obviously, Sharks and Penguins don't go anywhere near those deals though.

It was more that I didn't think he played a better game than Kassian at the point that Ruff tried flipping his wingers. Stafford was alright but didn't cash his chances and got a couple shots blocked on real nice opportunities because he tried to stickhandle more instead of just putting the puck on net.

As a whole, Drew Stafford has worse numbers than Brad Boyes did and Boyes only garnered a 2nd round pick. Staffords big year was 52 points last season with over 30 goals. That's just 1 season of good production. The rest of his career has been a disappointment.

Derek Roy has not played well this season. I don't care what spin you want to put on it. On top of that he had a severe knee injury last year.

Yeah, a bag of pucks is an old hockey saying that has been around for years and I'm sure you know that.

Now, I answered your question, now why don't you answer mine.

Tell me, what do you expect Roy and Stafford to bring in a trade if they were traded tomorrow. Take into account their salaries as well.

There's a smart alec in every crowd and I guess you are it in this thread.

Tell me, are you comparing what Bobby Ryan has done in his career to Drew Stafford or is it Derek Roy?

I've had the feeling Ryan to the sabres is happening. Murray being there tonight shows buf is at least interested. Do it,Darcy!

Roy would pull a great return. He's been a 70-point center with a $4m cap hit. I think more than 2/3 of the teams in the league would have some level of interest. I think plenty of teams would make significant offers for Roy.

Stafford has value. He has size, skill, and he's rounded out his game in the last year, adding two-way play and penalty-killing to his repertoire. I don't think he's been bad at all this season, he just hasn't been scoring. But I don't think he'd be viewed poorly for his nightly performances by GMs who are watching him closely. Stafford is like Lupul in that some team will always value him for his tools, so he's not that big of a risk for a team to acquire, even with 3+ years left on his deal. And for all the people who argued that his shooting% last year was not sustainable--and I agreed--he's not going to continue shooting at 6% this year. He'll likely start working his way back to his career average of 12%.
