Nodl was losing his roster spot to younger players... it is what it is. He was, however, a nice cheap extra man to have around, and certainly a lot more useful than Shelley.

The reason Nodl could not be shopped for a pick at least, was more than anything else due to the fact that the team is up against the wall due to the rash of injuries on D, and Holmgren has so poorly managed both the cap and contract structure of this team that he couldn't wait.

Well apparently Shelley is a really good lockerroom guy which is why people are being waved instead of him. If I were you guys I would just accept that fact since we really don't know and **** about it.

It gets very tiresome hearing about Shelley's apparent social intangible in the locker. How about waiving Shelley and hiring Louis CK as a 'special' assistant coach? There's your locker room personality, for a fraction of the cost.

Nodl is like the quarter in your pocket with a wad of bills; it's not too useful until you need to feed the meter.

You can still use that quarter to get a gumball. You don't have to hurl it down a street for a stranger to pick up and use just because you have others.

Quarter analogies are like a good quarter. They can help get you through any toll you might encounter on the highway of life.

Just curious, what were you expecting in return for a player that was already waived once this season?

Are you implying Nodl was already waived? Because he wasn't.

If only we had some of the expert GMs around here in charge, we'd had an unstoppable trio of Andreas Nodl, Pat Maroon, and Scottie Upshall destroying the NHL.

This is the first time he's been waived. A low draft pick for a proven 4th liner is just about the right value.

Dude, come on. Stop with this nonsense. All anyone is saying is that they wished/would like to think that he did his due diligence and shopped him before waiving him to "gauge interest".

Forgive us for not wanting to give away assets until there is no other option. In this case, there very well could have been (and probably was) no other option (at least IMO), but don't go and tell me you were "gauging interest", that's retarded. Even a 12 year old on his NHL 12 would try to trade his scrub before outright cutting him.

He wasn't? I remember getting excited earlier in the season when I heard he was waived, I thought they waived him and Betts. Oh well, guess I was wishful thinking, sorry.

Proven what? He wasn't a regular in our lineup. No suprise the HF is overvaluing one of our own.

I'd say Holmgren has in his pocket, besides his wad of bills, a couple of quarters, some loonies (Canadian analogy, eh?), a sharp thumbtack and a rusty washer. Guess which one Shelley is.

He wasn't a regular because he got injured. He was a regular all last season, and performed well in a checking role.

If I had a quarter for every analogy on this site, I'd have Andreas Nodl's paycheck.

This last page and a half has been brilliant work by many to crystalize the matter.

Exactly. Just because you have a lot of serviceable players doesn't mean you get rid of them for nothing.

Nodl claimed

Winger Andreas Nodl, who spent parts of four seasons with the Flyers, was claimed off waivers by Carolina on Tuesday.

"That's the risk you take," Holmgren said. "It's probably a good move for Andreas. He can go to another team and get an opportunity to work his way into the lineup there. He was having a tough time here for whatever reason. He was good for us for a couple years."

Nodl, 24, selected by the Flyers in the second round (39th overall) of the 2006 draft, had just one assist in 12 games this season. Known for his solid defensive work and penalty killing, Nodl had his most productive season last year, scoring 11 goals and compiling a plus-14 rating.

In 127 career games, he had 12 goals and 16 assists and was minus-4.
