Awards:
Need to do better clamping down at the end of a period, and the 5-on-3 needs to be better. Should have put the game away there.

Otherwise, very strong game. Pittsburgh is one of the very best teams in the game, and we outplayed them.

Gaborik and Richards looked great out there. Callahan, Stepan and Hagelin looked quite good as well.

people are saying Artie had a poor game.

this might be true offensively.

but he made some GREAT back check defensive plays - especially in the first two periods

Oh, and in Gaborik's defense regarding the missed empty net, need I remind you that Callahan failed to get the puck out of the zone, and it was Gaborik who finally was able to clear it and chip it out of the neutral zone. They had been hemmed in our zone for a while and he was completely gassed. Can't blame the guy.

What a great night of television. Rangers beat the Penguins and now models walking down the runway in underwear.

Eminger and Woywitka quietly had very good games. Del Zotto had a sub-par game, but played well physically.

Del Zotto led the Rangers with 27 minutes.

A lot went wrong in this game against a very good team, and they still got the win. That says something.

It's always good to beat the Penguins, but I hope Torts forces this team to look at a lot of tape after this game.

First of all, despite the bad calls and the Penguins gooning it up, the Rangers still have discipline problems. Prust and McDonagh's penalties were particularly bad. Callahan's delayed penalty with 6 seconds to go in the 2nd period was just dumb and for awhile it looked like that could have been the turning point in the game. I expect him to be smarter than that.

And on that point, the lackadaisical play during the waning seconds of the period needs to end. It's not the first time I've noticed this, and tonight it actually resulted in a goal.

The PP was putrid in the 3rd period. The 5-on-3 was one of the worst I've seen. The Rangers think they are the Penguins and can get away with fancy passes but it doesn't work all the time. They needed to shoot the puck a lot more.

And, finally, the defense was in all kinds of trouble tonight. Girardi had a bad game and Anisimov was making turnovers left and right. This team really struggles to clear the puck without Staal and it led to a lot of icings tonight. That has to be fixed with or without Staal.

That being said, I saw a lot of good things tonight as well. The PP looked good in the 2nd period. Hagelin and Mitchell are playing great... EC should be a goner and I'm not sure what will happen when Wolski and Rupp return. Gaborik was flying and he was the best forward on the ice. Del Zotto, although he made an awful defensive blunder, is starting to pick it up offensively again.

Actually, I thought he did ok. With what he had to work with, that is. He was strong along the boards and made a couple of good passes. He wasn't a liability like he has been the past 4-5 games. Once he gets back to basics on that line he'll work his way back up.

Also I meant the PP was terrible at the end.

You had two 5 on 3's and can't do ANYTHING? That was really, really bad. Could've killed the game.

I actually expect a win when the Rangers play the Penguins. Got no idea why people get all surprised. If you think back, the Penguins don't ever really feast on the Rangers anymore, not like in the days of Jagr with a penguin on his sweater.

I hate the Penguins, and will enjoy telling people at work tomorrow how Crosby basically was an after-thought tonight. Yes he was decent, but who cares.

Take a seat, Penguins. Rangers played better tonight.
Lots of people seem to think the Penguins were better, I heartily disagree.

Really starting to wonder what is up with Dubinsky this season. We expected him to hit close to 30 goals this season but only has 1 through 21 or so games.
