Is Potvin the Sens announcer who sounds drunk all the time?
I haven't watched many Sens SN games, I've heard the name get ragged on all the time here, but after hearing that game the older sounding guy sounds like he's drunk half the time.
Never heard an announcer who slurs more in my life. Watched a few other SN games as well and sounds the same way.

It's the Gatineau French mixed with Ottawa French and English + NY American English + Florida retiree English + a late nap.
He's like the drunk grandpa that explains hockey to grand children.
I think I'll miss Potvin someday. I can't be mad about anything after that win though.
I liken him to the eccentric uncle who your parents don't let you see too often. I love Denis, he makes me giggle all game. On regional broadcasts you gotta have homers and Denis is as entertaining a homer as there is!
I hate how he goes and explains something for 5 minutes while 6000 thousands other things are happening in the game and won't call any of it until he finishes the story or comment.

Pretty bang on. Dean plays around with it sometimes...kind of entertaining.
Just hilarious, you have to remind yourself he actually was one of the games best Dmen all time. Most the time it seems kinda dumbfounding.
I think the guy has been concussed back to kindergarten.
I love the guy, but "Look at how many black shirts are around Craig Anderson!" - Comment while playing the Jets.

Haha, I'm glad this sentiment is catching on. I think I said this in the offseason this past year, I must have been the first person on record around here to profess my Potvin love, and make the "uncle" comparison.
He's no top-tier color guy, but for a regional broadcast, he's perfect.
His first broadcast I remember thinking Potvin did not have a good voice for the job, but he's definitely grown on me. I often watch an American feed for games and most of the US announcers are very bad. I really haven't noticed many gaffes or groaners from Potvin, usually what he's saying is observant and/or close to what I was already thinking.

You are right, if it wasn't for Orr, Potvin would be in the discussion as maybe the best & one of the toughest. But as we watch more & more players each yr the guys in the past get forgotten or have never been seen by todays fans & so sometimes get discredited. He knows the game well & remember he has been in the discussions in the past to be Ottawa's GM. I wonder if he will still be in that discussion when Murray decides to retire?
Potvin's a good announcer, he's just to obvious at times.

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
