Johnson's been involved with hockey and development in many ways over the years. Also, he's familiar with mid-season changes given the situation with Norfolk and TBL while he was with the organization.

I agree, he sure sounds like a real professional with sound fundamentals of how the game is played on the highest level and has a great attitude. Lets hope he can transfer that mentality and vision to the young defensive core we have and the veterans can pick some up too.
But is he only coaching the defense or is he teaching defense to the forwards to? Right now i only know he works with PK and the D.
I have heard more from JJ in a day than I have ever heard of Woods in his time in Washington. Maybe I just missed it all, but I am happy to have a new assistant on board. Thrilled actually.

it was mentioned by Vogel that he even played some forward during his career with the Caps because those teams were so deep on D. have to think D-schemes and strategies will be applied across the roster.

Well, lets wait a couple of weeks and see if his strategy works out, guess evason has some changes to make too. I dont think evason is a bad coach, havent heard much from him, but he has a solid career despite being small and un-talented so he gotta know something... That doesnt mean he is a good teacher, but he has stayed the longest here now of the primary coaching staff at least.
Accountability isn't just about getting benched or scratched. I was reminded of the Pens coaches meeting that was featured in 24/7 (I know, but bear with me). How they talked about the individual players and their performance. Listening to JJ, I heard this same mentality of accountability at the micro-level.
Johnson was a steady defensive defenseman. He could fight when needed, hit, and keep the crease cleared. He wasn't much for offense which isn't important. He kept it really simple and sacrificed the body. He was never really a top 4, but he did his job. A step above Erskine in his day. I'm looking forward to how he handles the Defense.
Good for woods. I know he said he was "surprised". But if caps gave Anaheim permission on Monday to talk to BB. I think he accepted job quickly and asked or woods. Hunter probably had his guy so it was all good for everyone.
