Here's What an SEL Fan Thinks of Kopitar

I exchanged PMs with KRM500 on this board. He's from Sweden and a fan of Frolunda. Below is his reply to me asking him for his opinion on Kopitar...

You can follow him here, the official stats site for the SEL - http://stats.swehockey.se/default.htm

Actually the first time I saw him play was two weeks ago when he and his team (Södertälje) slaughtered us (Frölunda) with a 7-1 win. Anze scored 1 goal and I was very impressed by him. He is big and plays very mature for his age, if I didn't know who he was I would never have guessed that he was a rookie. After the game the only positive thing I could find was that Anze (who had been very good in that game) would be playing in NA next season.

I think we have ourselves another GEM boys. Imagine if him AND Tambellini make the team next year.

I can't see either being in the minors next year.

I think our forwards will look something like this next year.

Frolov-Conroy-Demitra
Brown-Kopitar-Tambellini
Tk-Belanger-Roenick (I think he'll come back for much less)
Cowan-Avery-Parros

Here's how I would look at the lines:

Brown-Conroy-Demitra
Frolov-Roenick-Tambellini
Cowan-Belanger-Avery
Parros/Kostopoulos-Kopitar-Cammalleri

I dont know if you wanna push him onto a second line right away. Have him centre a fourth line first, get some conifdence and increase his time as he improves.

We dont want to do a Dustin Brown with him. I think, later on down the year he would become our #2 centre.

Then it would be better to just have him play in Manchester next season where he's gonna get top 6 5-on-5, and p.p. time, as well as some p.k. time as well. Rather have him doing that than having him play 6-10 mins. on the 4th line with the Kings.

If you would have read my whole post you'd notice how I said that I think by he end of the year he'd become our #2 Centre.

Playing in Manchester wont guarantee your gonna star tearing up the NHLright away. Just ask Dustin Brown.

Like I said, start Kopitar on the first line & push him up as he improves.

Even if he plays in Manchester 1 year, he'll still have to be eased in when does get called up.

Hell and who knows what our lines will look like next year. We could sign a fa or two as well.

Yes I did read your whole post, and I still think it would be better for him to have top 6 minutes for a FULL season in the AHL than a quarter or half a season in the NHL.
Playing a season in Manchester, I don't think he would have to be eased in. He would be familiar with the North American ice by then, and, if all goes well, he could step in as the #2 centerman by then. Or maybe even by mid season.
In my opinion, he would get better development playing a top 6 role for a half to full season in Manchester than he would getting bottom 6 numbers in LA for a half season.

My problem with your argument is that if you send him to Manchester for 1 year, it doesnt mean he's gonna be a No. 2 centre right away in the NHL when you DO call him up. He'll still need time to develop.

I just think he's the kind of guy that doesnt even need the AHL. If it wasn't for his contract situation in Europe, he would have made the team. At least, he played well enough to make the team.

If he plays well enough in training camp next year, which I don't see why he wont, he should make the team.

Im not saying put him on the 4th line for the whole year, just for a few games to get his feet wet. And then move him up as he improves. And this is the process he'll have to go through his rookie year anyway, whether its next year or the year after. So why delay it ?

Kopitar and Brown have very different styles. I'd be careful trying to compare the two. Part of Brown's NHL problem is (I think) because he's not a natural scorer/playmaker (not like Kopitar, anyways).

Kopitar's performance at the next training camp will determine where he's slotted.

I kind of doubt the Frolov-Conroy-Demitra line will still exist at this point next year, and I wouldn't want to put two rookies, Kopitar and Tambellini, together, anyways. If Kopitar can prove that he's ready to be a playmaking center in the NHL, I'd perhaps try something like:

Frolov-Conroy-Cammalleri
Tambellini-Kopitar-Demitra
Brown-Armstrong-UFA (Roenick, Bure or other)
Kosopoulos-Avery-Belanger

Good luck to the opposition choosing which of those top 2 lines to shut down.

kingsjohn, "just say no" to Luc. He's lost too much to be out there now, to say nothing of a year from now.

There might not be enough room to.

Who is getting dumped so the Kings can have 2 rookies in their lineup? Robitalle will probably retire...

Roenick will retire too I bet. He seems to have lost confidence in himself.

I can't wait to see him in the WJCs this year. I think another year in Manchester next year, especially with the amount of elite prospects we have. Tambellini & Kopitar are probably gonna make the club before him. Maybe the year after he would get in.

And dont forget about Petr Kanko. I think he's a sure bet to make the team soon. I think he'd be perfect to fit on a line with Belanger/Avery.

Right now, looking at our roster and howthe pieces fit, I'd put Tambellini, Kopitar & Kanko ahead of him.

You have to admit, what a nice problem this is to have - many prospects & veterans alike.
