But Briere is playoff warrior. This team is young enough - we need him!
Not denying that Briere is a playoff warrior... he is. I thank him for all he's done here, but I'd move him in a heartbeat for Ryan.
He's just not @ all responsible defensively and we have a chance to get younger and replace his production w/ a elite power forward. And we'd also clear a massive amount of cap room... which is nice.
other than the fact that they are just too sick, I don't see any problems.
Edit: And you can actually add Blake to the list of forwards. Dunno what we'd do w/ him, but I'd take him back to make the trade work.
Brayden Schenn has played a total of 12 NHL career games totaling 2 points. Rookies rarely jump right in to fill the role of a veteran (established) center. If you don't see the problem with having Giroux alongside 2 rookies down the middle, I don't know what to tell ya.
Though the argument "they would be sick" sure makes a valid point.

Briere's cap is only about 1.4 million higher than Ryan, and becoming younger is not, itself, a goal.
I don't think Briere can be moved for a few different reasons--NMC, the Richards / Carter trades, and the structure of the team. I'd prefer to move Schenn, who, if he turns out to be fantastic, might reach Briere's level of production (albeit with better d / all around game) around the time that Pronger and Jagr are getting inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Generally you use the argument that you want veterans down the middle b/c you're worried about rookies being defensively responsible. In this place, you'd be replacing Briere down the middle w/ an excellent 2 way player and a guy who can help on the PK too.
Briere does nothing for you defensively. NOTHING. He is straight offense. And his offense production can (and would) be replaced by Ryan. Ryan also adds a nice 2 way game. He's pretty solid defensively.
Meanwhile, Voracek's production could be replaced by Schenn. Schenn is once again better defensively, can play the PK, etc. He also looked great offensively during his stint up here. But apparently nobody saw that b/c he didn't light the lamp b/c the team was going through a slump @ the time.
It's amazing that people will use stats to say Schenn isn't ready but those same people will turn around and criticize JVR even though he has the stats right now b/c he isn't "consistent enough".

Not only that, you are afraid of rookies producing at all in circumstances where they have to or your club sinks. A center (regardless of potential) who isn't quite ready to tack on big minutes can seriously diminish a lines offensive production. Also, simply because Schenn has been a great 2-way forward in lesser leagues, doesn't mean he's yet capable to fill that role in the NHL.
It's amazing that you think it's as simple as musical chairs, getting younger, and lollipops and candycanes will lead the way. How about that NMC?

I'd ignore the NMC for now b/c none of us can realistically say whether or not he'd waive it. Obviously if the NMC doesn't get waived, deal is dead.
If it does though, I would make that trade.
Obviously you disagree. No problem. I don't think it's all lollipops and candycanes though. I've watched Schenn during his 5 game cup of joe up here and I've watched every one of his Phantoms games and I came away impressed. I believe from what I saw that he'd be up to 2nd line C duties. He has an NHL body, he is physical, he is fast, he is defensively responsible, he can win faceoffs, and his vision is incredible.
And btw, what you said about a Center greatly reducing a line's offense if he isn't ready, that's true of any position. A winger on a line that isn't ready would also reduce that lines effectiveness. So Voracek or Read or any of the others could've derailed a line... but they didn't. Schenn is ready. He was never in the AHL b/c he wasn't ready... he was there b/c of injuries and cap issues.
If the Ducks trade Ryan straight-up for Jeff Carter, Holmgren and all of Philadelphia will be slapping themselves on the forehead "I could have had a V-8" style...
"Several reports now that Flyers are not one of the teams in on #NHLDucks winger Bobby Ryan."
This roller coaster is hurting my heart right now
I just told you like three pages ago that the Flyers aren't going to do it.
And I didn't even need sources.

I'd rather have Couturier + Voracek + Cousins than Ryan.
In the ryan thread, people saying Jordan staal will win the selke soon.. I just dont see him doing it.. He doesnt quite have the offensive upside to him
