that would be awesome. Assuming he's been showing no symptoms for 5 weeks how long is long enough? I am sure they will as they should air on the side of caution.

Most important thing is he gets 100%. I want him back this yr but if it's only for the last 5 games of the yr and playoffs then the rest of his career I will take it

The key is that he doesn't show symptoms as the level of exercise increases. Not having any symptoms for weeks but getting them after he starts trying to condition himself means we're back at square one

I am tempering my expectations.

Give him as long as it takes to play complete with full contact. If that takes the rest of this season, so be it. Hopefully it's sooner.

Anyway, Good news is good news and I'll take all I can get.

Possibly, the best thing about 24/7 is we're going to see the progress and insight towards Staal and his return. It'll be interesting to see if they let him near the cameras or if they don't care.

Brooks wrote Staal has been symptom free for at least 5 weeks. When Staal went to Dr.Cantu in October, the Rangers thought Staal would be cleared to resume light workouts but Cantu shut him down for one month. Staal saw Cantu 6 weeks ago for the first time.

Quote:
The examination, sources have told The Post, will follow a one-month “shutdown” period ordered by Cantu when Staal visited him during the week of Oct. 16 while the Rangers were in western Canada.

The Rangers at that point were optimistic Staal, who had previously undergone repeated acupuncture in Toronto and had received a cortisone shot in the neck from physicians at the University of Buffalo on Sept. 26 as treatment for the intermittent headaches he had been experiencing since at least late summer, would be cleared to resume skating after being off the ice for a couple of weeks.

Staal must have been feeling better before seeing Cantu in mid October for the Rangers to have thought Staal would've been cleared to begin the process of returning to Staal but he was shut down.

So that would explain Micheletti's erroneous prediction that there was going to be an update (seemingly positive) on Staal.... Rangers were expecting Marc to be cleared for skating and instead the doctor told him to rest for another month?

Staal will give Torts' the flxibility to create two shutdown pairs. He'll need that to match up with Pittsburgh in the playoffs.

So by early January he might be in regular practices and by late January/ early February we might see him play?

Can't really rely on any time frame until we learn that he's not experiencing headaches anymore while working out hard....

That's what I said likely happened when RB said Staal would be speaking to Cantu since it had been 1 month.

They wanted to be completely sure, and this was in light of two very encouraging wins in Western Canada, where McDonagh and Girardi were playing amazing.

Great news.

We need Staal.

Yeah, Girardi will be out of gas playing this many minutes. Then this whole board will whine how he's inconsistent and after a good start, now he sucks at the most important time of the year as the playoffs near.

We need Staal to come in and to have Girardi's time reduced sharply to 18-20 minutes, preferably against non-top lines, for a couple of weeks. Then after giving him a rest, he can go back to 23-24 minutes against top line opposition.

Staal is ready to go now, but the Rangers are being extra careful to make sure everything healed.

Next week Staal wil resume no contact practices, and another week later he wil practice with all others. Staal will play in 2011.

In the other Staal thread,we discussed the timeline with what Micheletti said on MSG when the Rangers were playing in Vancouver. Sam Rosen had also said on XM Staal was seeing a specialist in Boston a day before or the same day Micheletti made his comments. The Rangers were expecting Staal to be cleared by Dr. Cantu 6 weeks ago but he told Staal to shut it down for one month. The next day everyone expected the Rangers to issue or leak Staal had been cleared but he wasn't.

The Rangers are going on the road for the next 3-4 days. Leave today and return on Saturday night/early Sunday morning. Does Staal join the team or do the Rangers not want the media to look at Staal skating or ask him questions so he stays here to skate? Staal went on the road last week. Staal could ride the bike or workout with Jim Ramsey at the hotel gym. The media was not allowed to speak with Staal last week.

Nice inside info. Can you find out if Rangoon is getting canned?

Best way to prepare for that would be to build a nice fat cushion at the top and away from the annual fight for the 8th. That would allow us to rest players like Girardi down the stretch and plug in guys like Erixon and Parlett (is he still around in CT??)

I hate to pin everything on Staal coming back in time...

Staal is making the road trip

Quote:
The team will shortly leave on its flight to Carolina and the injured trio of Marc Staal, Wojtek Wolski and Mike Rupp will again accompany the team as they did for last week’s trip to Florida and Washington. This allows them to continue working with the Rangers’ training staff.

Oh yeah, he will be such a great addition when he comes back too. We will b so deep on dfence. Hopefully Sather does not disrupt the chemistry we have with a trade for the likes of a Bobby Ryan.

Yes.

More good news. Travelling with the team, no Thanksgiving dinner on the road this time, so Staal must be making significant progress.

Yeah, why get a local kid who happens to be 24 years old and a first line left winger? Wouldn't it be more prudent to make an offer and see if the Ducks will accept what we are comfortable giving? Not sure why you would dismiss this out of hand. He's a stud and we need that kind of upgrade in our top 6. The question is what will it cost and then and only then is it worth it.

All the injured players (Rupp, Wolski) are traveling with the team.

Until Staal practices hard for more two days in a row, I have no expectations on when he will return. His headaches didn't come from light exercise.

Just my 2 cents here... But if he is just now "skating lightly".......... Not good.
