Miller clears the air
Ryan Miller doesn't want out of Buffalo.
A weekend note in the Edmonton Journal by respected hockey columnist Jim Matheson caused a stir with some fans in Buffalo, with the veteran writer saying he kept hearing that Miller wouldn't mind if the Sabres traded him.
Some Sabres fans reached out to me via Twitter asking me what I knew. Well, I put the question right to Miller himself whether it was accurate that he may want a change of scenery.
"That is not true at all, and I have never made any comment concerning my status with the team," Miller told ESPN.com via text message Tuesday. "I am proud of being a Sabre for all we have accomplished, and I am excited about the new chapter Terry and Kim Pegula have inspired. I am working hard to get healthy and build my game back to where I want it so I can start to contribute to an effort to build a championship team."
Right from the horses mouth. Matheson's little blurb was based on nothing. Just like I said.
Man it took a while for sombody to straight up ask him. Honestly I was thinking wed get this the day after the article came out. Great response from miller. That should put that rumor to rest (hopefully). Though it was fun to think about return we could get for him. As I said in the origional thread the guy was talking out of his ass with no real source on that info otherwise it would have said "A source within the organization" or "A source close to Miller" not just a source told me. His source was his editor telling him to stir up some contriversy.
This makes me feel good; regardless of how he acts sometimes, Miller is our guy, and right now this team needs a goalie that has it in him to be one of the best. Enroth isn't quite there yet mentally.

For what it's worth, I don't think he ever did say anything in regard to his future here, but if he did, I wouldn't expect him to confirm it (a la Smyth last summer, IIRC).

He could've elected just not to text back, but I do agree, if asked straight out not many professional athletes are going to admit to wanting out. I don't think he really made any comment about actually wanting out though.

Not sure how this means it was based on "nothing". As the above posters said, he's not going to come out and say "yea I want out". You know, people have lied before in the world of professional sports.
I'm certainly not saying there is anything to the rumor, but it would be naive to say that a rumor was based on nothing because of a denial. OJ does deny being a murderer, after all.
Miller should just say nothing on every issue. He's not going to win with people right now. Be quiet, get healthy, get your game back. No media interviews or comments.
Reporter provides vague information about a rumor? He must be right!!
Player gives a direct quote denying said rumor? He must be lying!!
Nobody said that. What was said, and what makes sense, is there are no absolutes in the world or rumors. Just because someone said they heard Miller would be open to a trade doesn't make it true, but the vagueness of the information from the reporter doesn't make it false either.
Conversely, Miller denied the report, and very well may be telling the truth. But just because he denied it, doesn't mean he is telling the truth, as not many professional athletes confirm these reports.
You can't just say the report was based on nothing based on a denial from an athlete.
More Miller shooting down the notion he wants out.

Audio coming on Sabres Edge soon from Ryan Miller. Made it very clear he has no interest whatsoever in any trade out of Buffalo.

Miller: "No reason for me to want to leave .. We have great new ownership excited to put a winner on the ice and I want to be a part of it."

More Miller: "For me to want to change that situation and get out, I think the grass doesn't get much greener than it is here."
I wonder if Miller's warm words regarding "growing up" in Buffalo and "wanting to win here" will help him win back some of the fans that turned on him. I hope so. It would be nice for Miller to have a warm reception when he returns to the ice... http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/...ng-better.html

I was never anti-Miller, but like I said, sometimes his personality is off-putting. The interview today was beyond refreshing; it was great to hear him so genuine (seemingly) and so into winning here in Buffalo. This is the kind of stuff Pegula wants to happen with players. You can't blame players dealing with pressure and frustration to sometimes act the way they do, especially ones that are labeled as elites, and franchise players.
So yea, it was a nice interview and didn't feel forced - I hope more people hear it and realize that Miller seems to be a serious, introspective and self-critical player. Lately, it's more strange to hear the same old guys being interviewed, like Pominville, and not seem extremely frustrated and almost acting nonchalant about the loss. Saying the same ****, care-free and no sensible critique other than "gotta put pucks in the net". I can't stand hearing the same old hockey cliches from these players anymore.

The end of that audio should squash all talk about Miller wanting out because of his wife. Loved how he described it.

Sadly, people will still bring it up.
It makes perfect sense. They both have demanding jobs, are comfortable with their relationship and support each other. I can't imagine being in that situation with a partner who is crazy about the distance/demands/expectations. He sounds confident about everything, so good for him.
If people continue to talk about it...I hope they don't, I would like to think people aren't that stupid.
