He made it through last year. I'm not too worried. Hopefully he doesn't get picked up because that would suck. Guess this means a trade is not happening.

no one is going to pick him up

he's a fringe NHLer. even if someone does, the team that claims him will just waive him within a month

Matt Walker is worth 850k as a bottom pairing defenseman. Whoever picks him up will keep him as a 6 or as insurance. Unreal that we would do this given our cap situation.

So if he is claimed...half of his cap hit stays and we still dont have a defenseman.

If you gave Paul Holmgren a brick, eventually he would hurl it straight into the air to see what happens; inevitably, it would come down and shatter his face. A few years later, Holmgren would take a different brick and hurl it straight into the air, expecting a different result.

Now we get to see if the brick misses.

But if he doesnt make it through, it doesnt hurt the team in the long run right?

What positives out weigh the negatives in calling up Walker? Remember, the positives need to outweigh the negatives for this to be positive for Holmgrem and for the team.

In the case of Nodl, a bird snatched it up as it flew past. In Walker's case, if a bird grabs it it'll also take a dump in Holmgren's eye before flapping off into the sunset.
