I would take Walker over Lilja if Walker came with a 850k cap hit.

Also, we need more Bruegel the elder in our threads.

When I first saw this thread I thought it was a bad bump...

Although I still doubt anyone picks him up, this is a horrible move. Matt Walker really is no better than Marshall or Bourdon. At least our rookies have something to prove to get money in their next contract.

It does not. The stars are still paying Avery. The rags waived him earlier.

Nvm misunderstood your post.

Crux of the matter. 850K is peanuts to pick a player up for free... if he doesn't work out, you can waive him yourself and move on.

But does it count against the actual cap, or are people just worried that Snider is running low on money?

EDIT: Guess you edited? haha

If walker is claimed and then waived by his new team and assigned to the AHL his cap hit is removed from our cap. Sean Avery being waived made the Stars go out and get nystrom(to reach cap floor) and then he was recalled by New York and he was back on their cap

I don't understand how anyone could possibly try to defend this. I really want him to get claimed just so there is no question as to how retarded this is. I'm so tired of people brushing idiocy under the rug.

Until the dead cap space affects who we can or cannot have on the roster.

99% of the people on here will not consider other options. It is only that he is stupid and has no idea what he is doing. I happen to believe, that there is at least a chance he knows what he is doing. He may not, and if he gets claimed, it will show his information was bad or that he just blew it. If he clears, it may be luck, but it also may be that he is the ****ing GM and talks to other GMs and has a staff of people all with their finger on the pulse of the league and the value of the players. Wait, that is outrageous. I'm sorry. No way that is possible. He probably just **** his pants and tried to call someone for help but accidentally recalled Matt Walker because there is certainly no chance that he has some insight into this situation that isn't posted on HockeyBuzz or BroadStreetHockey or HFBoards.
What part of "He's done this exact thing before" is hard for you to grasp? Why do you keep wanting to pretend like he called around and checked with everyone, when we know FROM EXPERIENCE that he doesn't have any idea, and he's willing to put the team in cap danger because he just has to recall some overpaid bum from the minors? Why is this hard to understand for you? Look back at the Randy Jones waive/recall/"That's the risk you take" ********. He has no idea what the other GMs are doing. Except now we know that there are a few teams desperate for dmen. So the risk side is correspondingly higher.

Oh ok. So one time two years ago that happened means that unequivocally it will happen again. Does this work with lottery numbers too? Boy, that would be great!

Those of you who keep thinking Shelley will be waived aren't getting it. He should have been waived but Homer just won't do it. He's not going to be sent to ADK.

Nothing says "Flyers fan" like hoping the team destroys itself and sucks for a good handful of years just so you could prove a point.

I dunno... I kind of hope it happens too.

That way I can be right, the idiots defending Homer in this case (and I'm far from a Homer hater but holy **** this move is dumb) can be wrong, and when it starts to bite us in the arse, we can send Jody Shelley's useless ass down to the minors and actually pick up 350k in cap room from the whole ordeal.

Sadly, Schenn will probably get sent down before Shelley gets waived. You'd think that Shelley chains him self to one of the WFC zambonis between games, I don't know how else to explain his cap hit's continuing presence.

Aint that the truth? I can't understand the obsession with magnifying every small thing Holmgren does even remotely wrong whilst ignoring everything else.

Flyers cap situation after everyone but Lilja returns from injury if Walker gets claimed:

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jaromir Jagr ($3.300m)
JVR ($1.654m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Matt Read ($0.900m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($2.250m)
Harry Zolnierczyk ($0.900m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)
/ Brayden Schenn ($1.700m) / Jody Shelley ($1.100m)

DEFENSEMEN
Chris Pronger ($4.921m) / Matt Carle ($3.437m)
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m)
Coburn ($3.200m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
/ Claimed Walker ($0.850m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

BONUS OVERAGES FROM LAST YEAR ($1.402m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,135,039; BONUSES: $1,300,000
CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $164,961

So in order to have 7 defensemen (the 1 backup we usually like to have sitting in the presser) like usual, we'd need to trim some cap somewhere.

Ideally, that would be Shelley but Beef may be right... it could end up being Schenn.
