CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jaromir Jagr ($3.300m)
JVR ($1.654m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Matt Read ($0.900m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($2.250m)
Harry Zolnierczyk ($0.900m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)
/ Brayden Schenn ($1.700m) / Jody Shelley ($1.100m)

DEFENSEMEN
Chris Pronger ($4.921m) / Matt Carle ($3.437m)
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m)
Coburn ($3.200m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
/ Claimed Walker ($0.850m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.666m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m)

BONUS OVERAGES FROM LAST YEAR ($1.402m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,135,039; BONUSES: $1,300,000
CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $164,961

So in order to have 7 defensemen (the 1 backup we usually like to have sitting in the presser) like usual, we'd need to trim some cap somewhere.

Ideally, that would be Shelley but Beef may be right... it could end up being Schenn.
Our salary cap is only 62,897,500 due to bonus coverage since last year

That would be why you see the line "Bonus Overages" below the goalies.

I included it.

Could be Zolnierczyk or Rinaldo that gets sent down as well. 13 forwards is enough, even if one of them is Shelley.

We'd need to add what Marshall, Bourdon, Wellwood and Holmstrom has cost towards the cap during their stays as well, though it won't make too much difference I believe.

Their numbers would be more than covered by Pronger's stay on LTIR, along w/ all the other guys on LTIR.

Walkers cap hit won't prevent us from playing giroux. Harry Z...maybe so. But if we don't win the Cup because of Harry zs absence...then we really have much bigger problems.

I hope Walker is claimed. Teach this joker in the front office a lesson. Wasn't it just two days ago that Holmgren told the media that teams were LOOKING FOR defensemen, not get rid of?

How stupid will Holmgren look if Walker is claimed, losing the contract that was needed before losing Nodl?

This type of chart really isnt representative of the day to day cap. Assign the roster for that game, divide by league days and see if your cap compliant for the day.

This is much more of a Homer Hating/Richards loving board than a Flyers one.

Right, until our lack of cap space prevents us from re-signing or keeping important pieces...like, once again, Gagne. Losing close to a million bucks in cap room is a huge deal to this team because Homer routinely operates right at the cap and is constantly relying on LTIR to get us through the season.

The most frustrating part about this for me is that this isn't the first time he's done this...it's already bit him once.

Every screw up Holmgren makes, people pass it off as something minor and inconsequential. And then they all get defensive about it, every single time. Since it keeps happening.

You could also say people blow it up as if Shelley just got a $4mil raise.

Well I am not going to hate this team because of this, no matter how dumb the end result MAY OR MAY NOT BE. I am a Flyers fan, and I am here to post about the Flyers. Sorry I am not around to bash Homer and then blow it out of proportion.

Yeah, I'm a Flyers fan too. I want to see them succeed...so when I see the general manager repeatedly make mistakes that can hamper the team's chances to succeed, I don't like it very much.

Well, we gave a useless player $3.3M over 3 years. What's another $700K?

so we moved gagne a year early. When we got waxed by Boston I wasn't going...gags was the missing piece, were you thinking that?

Im walkers case it's not going to cost us anyone. We've locked up the important pieces minus Carle, jagr, and voracek.

Scott hartnell probably won't be here in 2 years, at least at 4 mil per...nor timonen at his current price. Get ready for that now.

So..you're just perfectly OK with losing players because the GM can't manage the cap? Why? Because we aren't last in the league? It sure hasn't helped us win any Cups, that's for sure.

And I understand, but let's say worse case scenrario Walker gets claimed and isnt waived. Pronger comes back, we can send players down. I know Shelley is not going anywhere, so I wont even entertain the thought. If Schenn does go down, then we are right back where we have been. This move doesnt hurt us, it just doesnt help. An risk I know shouldnt have been taken, but was.

I think there is a certain threshold to break out the torches and pitchforks.

This move, amongst other minor moves hasn't brought me to that point.

I won't defend everything he's done but I find some people hate him just because. He could somehow acquire Ovy and Crosby in the same day and his haters would ***** about the cap hit. It's fine to criticize but some people take it to far. That being said this is a horrible idea.
