Any professional hockey player is technically not bad at it. Think about it

Good:

McNabb bringing the physical presence in the third
Not getting shut out

Bad:

Just about everything else

Ugly:

Gerbe getting cut in the face by Goose's skate
Having to play Detroit again next month

G:
-Detroit. Just a complete game. Outclassed is right. Responsible defensively and seemed dangerous all night.
-Ran into some really good friends at the game and had a nice time spending most of the third in the blue zone catching up. Thanks to the Sabres for putting on a performance that made that possible.

B:
-Not getting inside on the offense and not finishing on Howard.

U:
-The 3rd goal was painful to watch. Hecht's turnover at the blue line was flat out embarrassing and Gragnani got caught looking like a pylon immediately after.

I can't remember the exact phrasing but we used to tell our kids something along the lines that players who work hard will outperform talent that does not work.

I'm not yet convinced that we don't have the talent needed to be an elite level team. I am convinced however that with rare exceptions, the talent we do have does not work hard.

Bad groin, he's got to get it well or he'll be Connolly 2.0.

The Good:

Jason Pominville retrieving his mouth guard following the goal.

The Bad:

Jason Pominville dropping said mouth guard back onto the ice after having been tossed it by the official.

The Ugly:

Jason Pominville being unable to retrieve the mouth guard from the ice by stretching both his arms down...
Goose having to retrieve the mouth guard with the blade of his stick and shove it back into Jason Pominville's hands.

I'm sorry, that has to be one of the funniest clips I have ever seen in an NHL game. Someone cut it out of the GCL broadcast and put it on youtube.

It's just after the 2:19:30 mark of the game.

You're still missing the point. In order to know how you stack up against a team like Detroit you need your best up against their best. The Wings iced their best and we didn't. So there is no way to use this game to know how our best stacks up against theirs.

Someone like Bucky, who is a sports reporter (nominally) should know that.

I was very impressed with the way Enroth rebounded from that tough first period. He's shown how mentally tough he can be (a great attribute for any player, but maybe most valuable in a goaltender) at previous points and tonight's game is just more evidence.

Not his best performance overall, of course, but in a way it is, for me, one of his most impressive. As I was considering his play tonight, I realized that, although I was impressed, I actually wasnt at all surprised with the way he came back. Enroth, for me, is just a guy who you can have confidence in.

Anyways, props also to Hecht and thanks to Pominville for not screwing up an odd man rush (not saying Pommer normally does that, I just feel that the Sabres in general do it a lot).

To Detroit: You guys played well, congrats on your SEVEN game win streak! Always liked the Wings. I hope your streak continues till the Sabres are at the Joe.

G-Adam learned to forecheck, Gerbes late effort, Ennis looked great and needs better linemates and open space, enroth's rebound, mcnabb+Kassian continue to be steady

B-Vanek...sorry love him but Ive watched him try to break a 3-1 by himself but gets scared and fires slappers that miss when 1-1?
-No finishing ability by anyone
-gaustad's most important play of the year being hurting gerbe lol
-Ruff's game management....again

U-Gerbe going down
-everything Sekera and Grags did....ps why is grags still on this team? WHY?!
-special teams in both directions horrible penalties and missed PP opportunities
-Gragnani
-Gragnani
-Stafford's shooting percentage
-it taking 8/10 of a game to put ennis in open space on the PP
-Gragnani

Don't know what it is, but we're in hockey hell right now.

Love the Christmas trees all over FN center.

Save your 7.75 on the Pastrami sandwich from the Broadway Sausage counter, it was horrible.

G - your guy Gerbe (spelling?) didn't get cut more seriously could have ended bad hope he is ok.

So I think thats the most important part out of this game.

There will be better times, I'm cheering for either a DRW Bruins or Sabres SCF tough I think, we are some kind of a darkhorse here Sharks, Nucks, Kings and Indians are tough teams..

Or this year. They've got 85 man games lost due to injury (Sid and Gene-O) and look where they are. Excuses are like a-holes......

We have to be the worst chance-finishing team ever. Gragnani reaches new levels of defensive suckitude. Watching Ennis play highlights how no one else on this team is willing to take the blue line at speed. Would it be too much to ask for just one of the bombs Ehrhoff launches from the point to go on net? I like McNabb's physicality but right now they usually also create opposing chances. Finley is not the savior of the blueline, file that under stuff we already knew. Would it be too much to ask for Leino to do just one thing this season that Matt Ellis couldn't do (better!?). Are Hecht and Vanek the only forwards actually trying on this team? How pissed must Regehr be right now? Talk about false advertising from Terry & Kim. Speaking of which, I wonder whats going through Terry's mind right now.

I know it doesn't take much for some to go off on the team. But Ruff didn't say they lost because of injuries.

He was aksed if this was a good measuring stick of how they stack up against one of the best like Detroit. His response was basically we need to get healthy first to know that.

Not what I was referring to, just answering Zzamboni's question and pointing out that all teams deal with injuries throughout the year. There is no way that question should be asked with what was put on the ice last night.
