Gauthier said at the golf tournament "he shouldn't miss too many games". Now we're looking at half the season without a #1 defenseman and powerplay quarterback and we're supposed to not assume the worst?
Well it could be an ensemble of factors. Misinformations, to couple of setbacks, to trying to reassure everybody.....Gauthier doesn't talk a lot, so you can't expect him to be good at it...
it's alright, keep trading assets and then we complain we have no depth coming up or the ones that turned out solid are playing elsewhere
It's funny because Habenaros in the other thread said that this is what Gauthier should precisely be doing to solve the inexperience on defense problem. I responded to hime saying that he will probably complain that we traded an asset for a player..and low and behold, this is exactly what he has done...all in the span of 30 minutes.
The players we gave those picks up for are also long gone ....
THE HOLE gets deeper
Your saying expect another trade? How much deeper we gotta go .
You just blamed gauthier in the other thread for not making a move for more experienced D and now you are whining that they wasted assets when they have done so.
So basically get mad that they don;t trade assets to fill holes and then get mad when they trade assets to fill holes. Great reasoning.
I don't get why people bash the re-sign...if he's on the LTIR the cap gets added to the cap giving us the cap space. If he retires from the injury the cap hit comes off as well. The only real way his signing will hurt the Habs is if he returns and plays like Dandenault.
More than that; he's probably a 7 million player when he plays. Even if he only returns next year, the Habs will be icing a 7 million player on a 5.75 cap hit, a serious saving. And in the meantime, like you point out: LITR.
Sounds like the kind of calculated long-term gamble that good GMs make, but make the fans want to fire the guy in the short term.
Well, he started the year with an 8 game suspension and plays for the worst team in the league. Pretty sure he'd have at least 3-5 right now if he were playing here. He was 5th overall in the NHL for points for defensemen last year.
I don't understand why people were so upset about signing Markov over the Wiz. When Markov is forced to retire at the end of the season it won't hurt us going forward, while the Wiz will have an atrocious contract for years.

I'd fire Gauthier and Martin and revamp the entire media team of the Habs, the secrecy is no way to treat your fan base and then this.... Really the Habs were the class of the league, but now...

Wait... You're saying that if he only comes back next year, after missing almost 2 full seasons, he'll perform like a 7 million dollar player? Are you serious?
How could the Habs brass have signed Markov to such a large contract in light of the fact of his knee problems? There is a surgery being done to clean up debris, his rehab has caused this? What will a hit do to him? I think he is done, I like Markov as a player but his career as an NHLer is clearly in jeopardy, he probably won't be back at all this season and our blue line is in need of some major help. Some hard decisions will have to be made in the next couple weeks, good luck Pierre.
One has zero cap hit we're not even competitive. Markov would make us a bubble team so I really don't care. If we were contenders I'd be concerned but c'mon. We're not looking good either way.
